Steam Ploughing 2016

Few photo's I took on my phone. I was there sunday Mid-day and there was plenty of activity, even though in the distance I could see a few Ploughing Engines leaving on Low Loaders. The weather was brilliant which always makes for a good day.

Nice to see John Sawle's Foden Agritractor doing some direct ploughing. Had a very good chat, first time it's been out of Cornwall in over 50 years and the first time its ploughed since being in South Africa in the 1940's I think. It was a very capable machine and did a very nice job of ploughing

Not sure what the purpose of the Road Loco was at the Ploughing but it was a very impressive machine

One exhibit I was glad to see was the Fowler that came out of Armley Mills. Here it is when I last saw it in Nov 2011

Just got home after a brilliant week, thank goodness I didn't miss it.
What I said to Mr Townsend was that this was the first time I have taken an engine outside Cornwall in the 54 years I have been an engine owner and it's the first time since the tractor finished work in 1952 that it has been ploughing.
The Ransome TS46 plough was refurbished this year and had not been used by us before the York event. After letting some of the air out of the rear tires the tractor gripped well and I think we did a good job. The land was very light and easy to work. Our land in Cornwall is heavier and might test the tractor a bit more. .
For most of the ploughing the Agritractor was driven, very competently, by 15 year old Steam Apprentice Tom Fogg who is riding as passenger in the above two photos.

My thanks to Teagle Machinery Ltd. Blackwater who sponsored me with free transport for the 800 mile return trip

The Steam Plough Club purchased one of the very last loads (28 tonnes) of coal to come from Kellingley before it closed. So we had engines built in Yorkshire, burning Yorkshire coal, ploughing in Yorkshire.

The owner of the B5 Road Locomotive arranged the coal deal and we were more than happy for him to bring the engine along.
Thank you all for your comments

Looks like you've made a great job of that TS46 - lovely ploughs; very neat furrows Mr Sawle..!
