More from Doort in Stoom
Thanks to Josh Menear for all his pictures. (Wonder if we saw each other?) Here's a few of mine - trying not to overlap. It's well worth the effort of going over to Dordrecht. Lot's to see - including a steam driven clog making machine - plus rides on tugs with triple expansion engines etc. etc. Friendly, informal - and tiring!
They tell me the name means 'Simmering pot' and they drive it backwards as it's easier to handle. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30629 Note the Burrell SCC block, made under licence. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30630 View of a RSJ Colonial engine from the top of the old Noord Hinder light ship. (Not steam but very interesting.) http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30631 An exceptionally smart Ruthermeyer roller with a Burrell SCC block. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30632 A pair of 'concours' A&P tractors. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30633 A magnificent McLaren with timber drug. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30634 Burrell No. 1 doing what Scenics do. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30635 A nice, late, Dutch Foden. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30636 This Burrell was from hilly Derbyshire. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30637 Kemna Stoomtractor "De Majoor" http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30638 4 ins Foster with a good load. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30639 I know Josh posted a picture of JW's family outfit, but he's almost a neighbour so I couldn't resist another one. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30640 Bill. |
great photos
is that a convertible garrett roller and do you have a works number for it? |
Any info on the Foden in picture 8? Is it a new build type replica?
|
I would hazard a guess that lots of the castings pictured on the Sussex Steam Restorations Facebook page have ended up on it
|
Thecornishsteamenthusiast: the Garrett roller definitely appeared to be a convertible. I'm afraid I didn't record any engine numbers.
Aveling8727: I didn't see anyone to talk to about the Foden. It certainly looked a bit unusual to me. Can anyone on here shed any light on it? You both make me realise I should have spent more time talking to people. Nearly all the Dutch speak good conversational English. Technical topics can be more interesting. Only two years till the next time. Bill. |

Seb, the Garrett roller is indeed a convertible, number 28371 of 1910, more photos below. Cheers, Josh. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30647 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30646 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=30645 |

google suggests it is based in a steam museum and pumbing station in Medemblik, holland http://www.wieringernieuws.nl/nieuws...Medemblik.html |

I first saw it two years ago at Mr Woltman's home when it was just a frame and boiler. I foolishly promised him a cake if he ever finished it. It is still work in progress and he plans to change some parts. Hedd is correct that the block and some motion work was outsourced. http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tti/14/259_4552.jpg http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tti/14/259_4553.jpg |
Dordt-In-Stoom is an excellent event, for us as simple punters it beats Dorset hands down.
I'll post some pics when I have sorted them out. We also went to visit the windmills at Kinderdijk, visited Eindhoven where I worked with DAF for a time and toured Delft and Scheveningen by the sea. All in all a great week. |
Re Seb's mention of Medemblik, there's also the Hoorn - Medemblik 'Stoomtram', http://www.stoomtram.nl/en.
Wish I'd spoken to Mr Woltman - great cake too. Bill. |
