Foden C Type Estate Tractor

Hello,

Does anybody know where I could obtain some works drawings or scale drawings of a Foden C Type estate tractor? I'm on a information gathering mission.

Thank you,

There are not all that many Foden drawings for the various wagon formats. You could try the Cheshire Archive first but failing that you might be as well to measure up the original which is out and about. As far as I'm aware the boiler and engine is standard but the gear ratios and particularly chassis details will be unique. Bear on mind the existing estate tractor was once a half track!

Nik , this unique engine is in your part of the world . Having failed to find succes with it as a half track Fodens put a standard early C type axle in it and turned it out as a haulage tractor with a rectangular tank on the back . Also I fancy with governors , but I am not sure what size of flywheel it had . It had an inconveniant winch drum on the rear axle . It was eventually sold into North Northumberland , near Wooler , but I am not sure if it ever did much work there . In the fifties it was bought by the Wakefields in East Durham , and was fitted with a dynamo and some lights . When Dick Wakefield sold it the firebox was said to be still like new . We were amazed to hear later that a new owner in Hatfield was having a new box fitted . The present owner tired of the solid tyres and has fitted the present balloon tyres for comfort .

I've seen it around regularly. I thought it would make a great project. I plan to merge this one with some existing drawings and re-engineer a project someone hasn't finished, or is in need of repair. This is unless I can get hold of a sound boiler.

I figured it's the advantages of a steam lorry without the length of bed.

I thought that you miniature types need the bed to sit on ?

We do, dependant on scale. But the length of trailers required and the space I have are two different sizes. It should also make it a bit different and somewhat more interesting.
