Yes who knows - if had a brass Patent Engine one on when I bought him, and I replaced it with an original patent engine one and then I saw this photo so now have an original Traction Engine one on

I have a RL copy but that's on the workshop wall

I suspect it was changed when it was showmanised and gained lots of brass, it lost the Patent mounted on springs plate then too but I was lucky to get that back from Alan Walker who very generously offered it to me and I refitted it. He had found it in the mud in the yard where they converted it, he was there buying a winch for his low loader. The plate would have been on the motion covers originally I think and they fitted rings and stars etc instead. The brass ring was on it when I bought it.

I think that the " Burrells' patent mounted on springs " plates were usually on the boiler barrell cladding .

Tom Paisley put one on Ronald Clarke's bed when he came to stay .

It was fitted with that name ring in its working days, why change it?
