Steam Roller, My first engine !
Dear All
I am on the lookout for my first engine (Full Size). I have a notion that my budget should run to a reasonable roller. Providing its not something that's as rare as rocking horse dodo or you have had all the motion gear gold plated ! I am looking for something which is in running order, in ticket on the boiler and looking good for some years. I am open to suggestions as to types and sizes but I am leaning towards something at the larger end of the scale (10T ish), perhaps Fowler or Aveling. The only instruction from the wife and daughter is get one with a canopy ! I can deal with some work to get it up to scratch but I want to avoid long periods of 'off the road'. PM me if you have some suggestions for me to follow. |
There are plenty to choose from in Old Glory this month. At least 3 fowlers i think.

Went to see A & P roller, long out of date on boiler cert, needs plenty work to achieve show condition. No negotiation possible on a top dollar asking price.

Be thankful you're not looking for a big Garrett single.
 :( *cry |

Don't despair. There are plenty out there and you will more than likely find what you want.

The rollers will pop up a bit more frequent now the rally season is drawing to a close. Don't rush into anything before you buy and ask loads of questions from other owners on steaming, roading, maintenance as some makes are much better than others.
Good luck Myke |
