Low Loader Wanted
 

Good evening everyone,

Looking to purchase a Low Loader. Needs to be at least 2 axles or capable of carrying more than 20 tonne.

Located in West Yorkshire so keen to find something near if possible.

Preferably cheap and cheerful but still good enough for use and has some life left in it yet.

I have got a 2 axle step frame which I have shortened and being made to carry 2 engines,It needs about a month to finish off,most of the work needed is to weld the beaver tail up,on air,on 19" tyres,good storage bed,looking for £2500'if interested call 01491 680889 after 6.30 please

We have probably prattled on about this kind of thing on here before but having messed around with trailers to carry engines for over 20 years now you learn a few things. The main one being they are a money pit! If you have a limited budget then the best thing i recon is to buy a trailer you think will do the job and do it up. Once you start looking at step frames, air suspension and hydraulic necks the price goes mad. Often you will put all your money into a trailer that will do the job then you end up paying a load more to sort it out. Anyway! we digress. This is after all the Wanted section.

have to agree with dave, no such thing as a cheap trailer, better to spend good money on one that is not too old or had a hard life, you say you want to carry 20 tons, i think that will be difficult on a 2 axle trailer.

Mine (tri axle 45' sloping bed curtainsider on air) cost me about £2250 for the trailer then I made the ramp etc and raised the roof.

All in blasted and painted with new slack adjusters etc £4.5k ish. I've put tyres on as we went, but that's wear and tear.

It'll carry two engines fine.

Tandem axle trailers would struggle with two IMO.

Ruggyjohn - As I'm starting to advance my search for a trailer further I agree with both yourself and Dave but thank you for the advice. Won't be carrying 20 tonnes but something that fits a 4 axles set up e.g 38 tonne (ish) limit.

Broken Firebar- Thank you for this. Have been looking at converting a trailer for our use and this is really helpful information.

Check the spacings of the cross members when you look at a trailer to convert. Point loads canbe quite high with engines so the closer the better!
