Perhaps you could buy a big tin of easy-sand filler and make your own pattern out of the old one , and cast in whatever alloy iron your boiler inspector approves . I think that would be the cheapest option . Fabrication would be possible , but you would have to roll a length of plate to get the radius . You could possibly then use bits of the same rolled plate , with a bit of adjustment by pressing , to make the pad , and then machine the top flat and weld a sleeve in to keep the space between the plates dry . Whatever your inspector approves .
A neighbour of mine found that one of his three Aveling pump studs was loose . He unscrewed it by hand , and it came out after three turns . Looking down the hole he saw the broken off tap which had been in there since 1923 .
