110v LEAD LIGHT - been looking for ages!!

this is quite a random request but on our half size scenic we are looking for a light to help us keep an eye on the water level at night. we have a plan whereby we utilise the rear bayonet light bulb holder to run a lead light on a cable down to the footplate.

we have a spare bayonet male socket but are looking for a hardy 110v light holder/torch like thing for the other end.
we are thinking down the lines of relatively small but very hardy as we don't want the accidently smash the bulb and have 110v live on the end of a wire floating around the footplate!!

we have tried many things before such as torches etc but this is the thing we have been looking for and will work!

Use a 24v bulb wired through a resistance , or in series with three others . Choose bulbs of suitable appearance to match your 110v ones . You do see low / vehicle voltage imspection lights made in steel of suitably antique appearence , or small marine light fittings in brass .

..... or jump on eBay and grab something from the US.

I would but looking on eBay we can't really find anything to suit :( I think ill take bob's idea and use 24v bulbs in series. Or actually take a look for some small marine light fittings :) cheers

Try LED's they would suit and are tiny.

Small round magnetic base LED lights. Cheap and relatively disposable. Usually 2-3 pounds each. Mine stick to the horn plates and give plenty of light for guage glass readings.

We have tried them before but they seem to use batteries too fast. Not sure if they're left on or whatever so that's the reason why we're looking into power coming from the engine. Thanks for the help though, as it happens we have now found a marine style lamp in brass which looks good and accommodates the right bulb! We're going to give it a go and see how it goes!

Have a look on RS online, they have 110v industrial inspection lamps. These are about £25 and take standard BC lamps
