Pickering traction engine rally
Been to the rally today after an absence of a couple of years, and what a surprise firstly there were no programmes available, and there was no coal available so the majority of engines were not in steam.
There were also rumours that this years show may be the last held on the Pickering showground, as the current owners want to build log cabins on the showground and turn it into a holiday village. |
Cheap to get in then?

Was just speaking to a friend on site, apparently ground has been sold to centre parcs. No coal on site, maybe getting some tonight or tomorrow and they haven't even finished building the public foot bridge, sounds like there could be more drama to come from Pickering

Just heard on another forum, that the coal is unlikely to arrive as the coalman has not been paid, the footbridge has been finished (looks like they have been paid), BUT the car park field rent has not been paid, so its a bridge to nowhere !! And the one lone singer in the bar last night packed up at 10 when they got feed up. Also the models are 'on strike' as they only get paid coal, which of course is not there !! Also apparently some of the full size are making noises about leaving too. Happy days !

I wonder is the "usual suspect" still involved?

I'm off to cearney on the morrow, at least I know there will be some engines to look at and there's plenty of coal !. :D

I live in Pickering and as I stated on the Admission Price post, South Cerney was always 1st choice. The people of Pickering who thought I was mad to travel over 500 mile round trip when an event on my door step may still think I'm mad but I feel I can justify my choice much more easily now.

Looks as if a ' Pickering ' may become a byword on here .
