1/2" Countersunk square coach bolts.

I need 4 No. 1/2" whitworth countersunk square coach bolts approximately 3" long to complete the body on my Garrett wagon. Does anyone have any of these available?

Please pm if you have anything to offer. Thank you.

Michael,

I looked for some of these a few weeks ago to rebuild the turntable on my trailer. They are called "plough bolts". I still couldn't get any. In the end I just used countersunk Allen bolts. The profile is slightly different on the countersink but they did the jobs perfectly and as part of the turntable will always be hidden from view. Alternatively get some ordinary bolts and turn the head up on a lathe?

I have had some success in getting various size plough bolts for my stuff through Thomas Smith Fastners in Wigan, including the squared variety. They are very helpful, the web only has small selection of what they have in stock (in fact plough bolts dont even merit a mention)... so worth a phone call.

Plough bolts with coach type square on head are usually quite short. One place I worked we had a die made up. Had to be spark eroded into a piece of some quite hard tool steel. Just hot rivet the head of a normal bolt of the desired length into the die and grind of the excess. A bit of a big project if you only need a few. I was told and have read that most old fashioned village blacksmiths would have had a selection of such coach bolt head dies mainly in order to supply the village cartwright. Obviously the idea of just making stuff locally as required is just completely ridiculous!
