Try the lads at steam traction world. They supply fitted covers for the 4 inch Burrell so it may do the Foster or can supply a bigger one.Tom

A friend of mine, who is a sail maker has just made one for a 6" Burrell, it's a basic fitted canvas sheet, laced up at the front. Once it's on the engine I shall send you photos.
If interested, she can do the same for you. |
Try Mick Cox in Wellingborough, he makes sheets for all sizes of engines. I had one made from green canvas for my 4" miniature Fowler Showmans engine last year and was very impressed with the perfect fit of it. He can be contacted at:
D C Products Alma Street Wellingborough Northamptonshire NN8 4DH Tel: 01933 223144. Very reasonable prices too. thumbsup |
I would second Mick Cox.
He made the sheet for our 6" Burrell and it is a perfect fit that covers the engine completely. There isn't any need for lacing on a miniature. John |
Have you looked in the ' Suppliers ' section on TT?
There have been recommendations for sheets on there for years . |
Hi Simon. If you just need a plain sheet and you dont need it fast, when i go down to Cornwall next i could most likely get one from
Macsalvers. They hold certain sizes on the shelf or you could ring them and they will get one made to mesure for you. Jed, Peter, Ale and myself have had sheets from there befor and are just what the Doctor ordered. Ask Jed !!!! |

Tom,
Our sheet is fitted. It slides over the top of the engine completely covering it like a giant tea cosy. The complete sheet is lighter than a single side sheet on the tasker. If it was physically possible for me to lift a fitted sheet for the Tasker I would have one. Also on a full size engine there is sometimes a need to climb up onto the engine just by unlacing one corner. I can't see their ever being a need for that on a miniature. John |
Hi John,
The one we've done for Nigels engine is one sheet, and is laced up at the front. Im know it's (probably) not as per full size practice, but it completely covers the engine, only the chimney is outside. I know that it would be nigh on impossible to have a single fitted sheet in full size, this one is heavy enough, but as you say, do-able on your own. Does yours (on the Burrell) come around the front? I was unsure if this was the done thing, but we decided on it anyway. Tom |
