32nd Annual Steam & Vintage Rally, 12th August 2012

Our first visit to this one day event. After early rain the rally was blessed with a fine if rather muggy warm day. This vintage rally offeres a bit of everything from old cars, motorcycles & lorries to traction engines, steam powered saw bench, a miniature steam railway, fairground organs, a working horse display and steam ploughing to a superb bi-plane doing an excellent aerobatic display.
Met a few old friends and a few T-T members who knew me, but I did not know them until today. A great day out.
The last time I saw these two parked together was at Birtley Rally in 1967

You didn't look very far David. I was there from 12.45 til 4.30. Apart from taking photos I spent most of the time chatting with the owners of The Pirate, the miniatures, the 1976 Foden or sat on a chair behind Alistair Evans's roller. They were all in a straight line. 5 previously unknown T-T members stopped to chat having seen my T-T teeshirt. So where were you hiding?

Having praised a very good one day show, I did think it a bit cheeky to have stewards at the car park EXIT gate stopping cars, shaking a black bucket under the driver's nose and asking to "Help the cricket club"!
WHY?
I saw nothing in the program about any cricket club, so who were they??

It was rebuilt by John Dyke in Cornwall.
It's been owned by the Miles family for many years now, probably 25yrs or so.
Does not get out too often, possibly only this rally every year, maybe Kington show which is on next weekend.

F.B.Atkins Foden S Type 1934 was fitted with a moving bed,not sure whether this was to facilitate tipping or a removable bed?
either way very early for the innovation.
F.B.Atkins used to run a fleet of Atkinsons all immaculately turned out.

It is fitted with a 'Principality' moving bed, manufactured in Cardiff.
It's like a large conveyor belt, which discharges the load out the back of the lorry.
The matching trailer which goes with it also has the same moving bed.

Thanks for that Trystan, so its not a tipper, wonder what powered it especially the trailer & what load would require the innovation.
