Pickering - Friday 3 August 2012

Some different engines at Pickering today.

First up Fowler 7871, a really treat. This engine was sold at the Willie Smith sale a few years ago and needed a good deal of work which it has clearly had:

An engine which I have not seen before is Wallis & Steevens Traction 7013, which is with the Stafford family at Houghton-le-Spring:

Mr Whitwell bought this Fowler conversion, I don't know the number although I believe it is the one for sale in the back of the current copy of OG. The name seems very apt!

Saunders bought along their newly purchased Foden, 13708. This was the first time I have ever seen this engine in steam:

And they also had their also newly purchased Sentinel Steam Bus providing rides:

I took loads more pics and there was some more interesting things to look at. I'll post a few more tomorrow if nobody else does when I get back from South Cerney.

Presumably it is the one with the 3 speed crank ex Messrs Boesing & Cloggs?

Perhaps too the Cylinder off 7871?.

I think Mr Cloggs still has the crank off 7871.

I went today and as far as I'm concerned it's the best Pickering show I've been to .
Most of the steam exhibits are in the lower fields and parade around the hard standing ring .
It would be interesting to know how the exhibitors found this years show , as I have said it's the best I've attended since I started going to rallies back in 2004 thumbsup

Went over to Pickering last night--a good night out and a nice selection of engines, but certainly not the large gathering that was hinted to in the publicity about 50 in total--I was also told that the Whitwell fowler was 9009, it doesn't look quite right to my eye, certainly has new wheels, dynamo bracket etc.--isn't listed in the traction engine register--9004 is as a D2 roller seems the most likely candidate to me ?

buggeroff 5th August 2012 06:40 PM

Its a bit bigger than any D2 roller David, its definatly 9009.

Chris.
