Hi Tim, What number is your engine please?

timsp 17th July 2012 07:42 PM

Marshall engine numbers

John the s type is 83985 a 6hp compound of 1928 and the standard 7hp compound is to the best of my knowledge 45693 of 1906. this was arrived at by a process of elimination with lots of research by David Toyne and and others.

Flywheel.

Greetings Tim,
I am sure I have seen a Marshall flywheel on ebay in the last few days under steam engine. I think yours will be the bigger size, over four feet diameter. Mathew, at Ticehurst may be able to help you as he has lots of "bits."
Cheerio Michael Webber.

"Onward" on here recently made a marshall flywheel pattern for somebody so may well have a pattern in stock.

It was for a 6nhp single ex Tasmanian Marshall, i think i am right in saying that they slightly altered the shape of the spokes so they could fit a third speed, the owner of the engine is on traction talk.
My engine had two spokes cut out of its flywheel, but we were lucky in finding a genuine replacement from a contractor who use to have a Marshall.
Maybe my old broken flywheel could be repaired by a specialist but i am not sure it is worth it.
I thought that Robert Crawford did have a pattern for a flywheel.
