WItheridge St John's Fair

Got out this morning and we decided because the weather wasn't too bad and we had enough of us we'd take both engines a couple of miles up the road to this local summer fair. Very impressive for a small village, with Anderton's fun fair and lots of stalls/exhibitions and a couple of vintage vehicles.

Nice to see some sunshine in Devon for a change. Ivybridge as usual cold and wet towards end of the afternoon. "Sheaf Of Arrows" looking very good. Hopefully, it will be dry at Powderham in two weeks time as the site is quite exposed by the River Exe.

it certainly did make a change! although we had the same cold and wet when working on the engines afterwards. she'll be down at powderham so hopefully we can have a dry weekend, should be a good selection of engines

That's a nice little engine Steve! Hope the running in is going well.

I spent all day on the Wallis, so can't comment on the Burrell Kev! But she seems to be running well though, with only the odd leak, which are slowly taking up. Looking forward to many miles on the road with her :)

Hi Steve,
Did "Sheaf of Arrows" have lining out when new? It would finish off a lovely engine, alot of people's favorite around here.
I should be a Powderham for the first time, I,ve heard good reports of it, can't wait!
see you there!

I'm not sure about when new, I've only ever seen one picture of her in her working days at an auction in the 1930s, but can't remember now whether she was lined or not...
She has certainly been lined at various points in preservation, up until we relagged her after hydraulic 2 years ago. But trying to repaint in the middle of the season meant we never got round to lining her again, especially with the Burrell to work on! I quite like her unlined now and she is a lovely engine, so easy for boiler management, even if a handful on the regulator!

Looks better unlined I think, but thats up to Nick. Too many engines are over lined!

Pretty good I thought that was, both ash pans off, 4 tubes in the Wallis expanded , & a weep on the Burrell foundation ring caulked , all within the hour!
May see you at Powderham on the Sunday.
