Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Association - 99th Rally
 

Thankfully, the weather held off for this weekend - it was chilly, but the rain stayed away and a good time seemed to be had by all.

While I didn't get much spare time to take photos, the collection at Goldsmith is fantastic, with the variety of steam, oil and other industrial engines matched by the friendliness of the locals and access to some wonderful Australian heritage.

Looking at the photos it seems that logs are the regular steam fuel in Austrailia !. must be getting short of trees down there !. :p

There were many other exhibits, rollers and tractions and tractors all rumbling around the place - I just didn't get a chance to photograph that many! It was great to see the Tuxford Steeple engine running (I seem to keep missing it in motion!) and the steam sawmill working with a Marshall portable was fantastic - engines take on a totally different sound when they are working hard.

The 100th Rally at Lake Goldsmith in November looks like it will be huge, and well worth visiting - and following on 5 months later will be Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club's 50th Rally so it'll be a pretty good time for steam and heritage enthusiasts in Victoria!

The dcc looks strangely spindly small boiler/belly tanks on big wheels, is it 2 or 3 speed?

3169 was a DCC 7nhp engine, 3 speed and double geared, fully sprung sitting on 7' rear wheels and 4'7.5" front wheels.

The 'wood' component of the SCC is a cast square dish which was provided on the colonial engines, presumably to help with sparks etc.

Its the 7' wheels that made the boiler look small on 3169. I'v seen wet ashpans before but not seen a trough fitted to a smoke box,
Looks a great event have a good 100th
