Riverside Steam Rally - 21 April 2012

Made a drive up the M6 to the Riverside rally nr. Southport today. Loads of TT members to chat to and the sun came out in patches too, it was well worth it.

Highlight for me was the 3 Aveling rollers celebrating their centenary lined up together 7632, 7641 & 7673:

And some of the other engines present.

I wasn't the only TT member taking pics, I'm sure others will add some more.

Yes I was there, also took some pictures, even thou we have had lots of rain lately the ground was slightly soft but not cutting up.
engines where not moving around which probably helped, thats 3 years running they have been lucky with the weather.

We enjoyed the day and the weather held up. David has posted most of the engines, here are a few of mine to add to the record.

We went on Sunday. Very pleasant and friendly day. Pity nothing was moving about though. I wondered if it is always like that or was the soft ground to blame?

James, it is pretty much a static rally, but on the Saturday night you'd have seen a fleet off to the pub no doubt, also likely a good few engines going home locally sunday evening.

Sadly I couldn't make it this year.

Usually there is an old boy who goes there as a punter, he's probably in his late 90's(?) and used to work for a certain showman in the north east who had one of those Super Lions called Onward and just remembered the steamers. Anyone see him this year?, It has been a pleasure to talk to him in past years.

Hedd,

That would be Peter Black. A super interesting chap and a real gent! He worked for a number of local showman to the Midalnds and North West including one of the Collins. He lives up in Cumbria. I would like to try and spend a day with him just listening to his anecdotes before the chance passes us by. Fancy tagging along if I can organise it?

John
