Lathe - Smart & Brown Model M Mk. 2

4” x 18” centre lathe
Single phase electrics
3-jaw chuck
4-jaw chuck
Travelling steady
Range of collets (28) & draw-bar
Selection of change wheels – 12 plus those currently installed

Cosmetically tatty but has proved reliable in use.

It came to me without change wheels and hence without power feeds. I have since purchased a set of change wheels but have not managed to get the feeds working with 100% reliability. The wheels are included here so maybe someone else can get that sorted.

I purchased this lathe as a total novice starting out in model engineering and it has served me well for several years. I have described it to the best of my knowledge and will answer any questions as best I can. Happy to post any pictures you may request. Anyone interested is welcome to come and view the lathe and see it running.

I have now upgraded to a lathe with more features (fwd/reverse, greater range of speeds, etc.) and need to move this on to clear the space.

Situated in South Herefordshire, access is good/wide.

£250 for quick sale – I need the space!

Just uploaded a couple of videos to show the lathe running with power-feed engaged. You will see how the feed stops sometimes for no apparent reason. Keeping your hand on the lever prevents this, but obviously that’s a bit of a pain.:(

I’ve been asked for the size –

Approximately 1400 long
540 deep
1200 high

I say ‘approximately’ as it depends upon if you include tailstock overhang etc..

And more pictures -

I have been asked for the weight and have got this reply to a post on the forum mentioned above -

The model M Mk1 is quoted as 1120lbs(509Kg), if you add on all the extras to convert to Mk2 your probably looking at 600-700Kgs.

Now sold to a very pleasant TT family.

Thanks to everyone for their interest.
