Twyford Waterworks Spring Rally
The Waterworks at Twyford is hosting its annual Spring Rally which will see a wide variety of exhibits making their way from all over southern England on Sunday 1st May between 11am and 4pm.
With a number of full size and miniature traction engines and steam rollers in the quarry, vintage vehicles, stationery engines, and all the resident attractions for the pumping station there will be plenty to keep the whole family entertained for several hours. Visitors will be able to see and hear the mighty 1930s diesel pumping engines at work and marvel at the huge triple expansion steam engine that pumped water from 1914 to 1971. The rare 1896 gas engine will be running as will the unique water powered engines in the water softening works; one driving the lime mixing mill while the other raises and lowers wagons on the incline railway. Rides will also be available on the miniature railway and there is even the opportunity to ‘captain’ a boat around the model boat pond! With five acres of meadows and downland the popular nature trail allows you to explore the wildlife the site harbours from plants and mammals to, on a sunny day, hosts of butterflies. Why not spend the day and enjoy freshly prepared refreshments from either the tea room or from the barbeque outside. And if you don’t fancy driving then there is a free hourly vintage bus service from Winchester to the Waterworks departing from the railway station and the Broadway. Adults £4.00; under sixteens free Twyford Waterworks Hazeley Road Twyford SO21 1QA www.twyfordwaterworks.co.uk 01962 714716 |
