If the old clack is safe but not working right then it may be cheaper and easier to fit a modern in line non return valve in the delivery pipe , and retain the old clack valve assembly as your connection to the boiler . A great many engines have inline valves fitted in addition to the original clacks , and they are very unobtrusive . Google up the BOSS / BSS catalogue for details .
