I'm gonna have to get myself up to Beamish, just for a look round if nothing else!

Not been to Beamish for 10 years or so, but will be near Wooler in the summer hols, so potential for a visit (if I can persuade she who must be obeyed). Has much chaneged up there? Railway restored etc??

If I lived nearer I would be there a lot more often , maybe as a volunteer to do a bit of renovation work .
A really good place to getaway from every day life once in a while.

http://beamishtransport.blogspot.com/ will show you how the place has changed for the better. There were 20 engines in steam on site today, 3 on rails, one in a winding house and all the others at work or on the move. Check out the film of the climb out of the colliery, every bit as good as GDSF in my book. Lots of "heritage traffic" and steam in context.
Train rides in the station and at the waggonway and steam shunting in the colliery, plus a contractors' narrow gauge railway in the pit yard.

Even when no events on, there are now some 3-4 semi resident engines, and these are often active on weekends in general. Well worth another look Bob.
