C J Wills & Sons Ltd, name plate Wanted

I was wondering if anyone would have a name plate that is for

C.J. Wills & Sons Ltd,
Public works - Contractors
Waltham Grimsby.

Its a bit of a long shot but I thought if you don't ask......

My steam roller would originally have had this name plate on the motion cover, however this has long since been removed.

Thanks Wayne

It might be worth contacting a local newspaper and putting a little bit about about your roller. Something might turn up. Good luck with your search, it's amazing what does turn up eventually.

Engine owners plate

I don't know what make your engine is, but normally the owners plate for a new engine was supplied by the manufacturer. The exact text on the plate may be stated in the build sheet. In the case of Aveling engines, details are available from Lincolnshire Archives.

If you can obtain this information, it may be possible to have an exact reproduction made based on (a) any original bolt holes in the motion covers may determine the size of the plate (b) typeface, letter sizes and formatting can be determined from engines of the same make which still have their original plates.

Jeremy thanks for that idea, I will make contact and see what happens.

Sandy it is an Aveling roller and I have the build sheet with the info on. I was just wondering if anyone had an original before I had one cast. I’m a fan of original over repro, but if it has to be a repro, so be it.

Thanks for the replies

Wayne
