Four unique engines on NTET visit to E. Anglia.
The NTET held its AGM in East Anglia last weekend. They also visited the Long Shop and Bressingham Steam Museums, where some interesting engines were steamed up for the occasion.
Starting at the Long Shop, Garrett's home, their 'Suffolk Punch' may be unique, but is probably quite well known now that the museum have started taking it out and about, including to the Great Dorset this year. Officially known nowadays as 'The Joker', I was assured by Ronald Clark that it was colloquially know as 'Old coming as it went'. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51464 Also present was this magnificent 6 ins scale Garrett Showman's engine. Purchased only a few weeks ago, this was almost its first outing. I hope we'll be seeing more of it next year. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51465 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51466 The museum's Garrett DCC roller 'Consuelo Allen' was in steam too. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51467 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51468 Moving on to Bressingham, this is the temporary home of another Garrett, 'Felsted Belle', seen here with the museum's Burrell DCC roller. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51469 And the museum's Garrett tractor 'Bunty'. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51470 An obscure, but unique, engine was Burrell's prototype 3 ton 'Special Light Traction Engine', built in response to the repeal of the Red Flag Act, which initially only applied to engines weighing less than 3 tons. This is a half size replica. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51472 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51471 Another of the museum's engines is the unique Burrell SCC portable. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51473 The final unique engine is this portable, the only survivor of a small number built by Youngs of nearby Diss. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51474 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51478 It is nearing the end of a restoration and was especially steamed a few days earlier to mark the funeral of the last direct survivor of the Youngs family. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51475 The owner, Jonathan Wheeler, transported the Youngs in appropriate manner, using Ruston & Hornsby agricultural 'Oliver'. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51476 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=51477 Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at both museums and everyone else involved in providing the entertainment.
