Bonded Warehouse Open Day Stourbridge 20 & 21 Oct 2018
 

At the weekend we took the Garrett back to Stourbridge wharf where she earned her living working for the Sadler Brother's in the 1920's. It was especially gratifying that the grandson & great grand daughter of one of the Sadler Brothers were able to see the engine come 'back home'.

The occasion was the open weekend at the Bonded Warehouse on the wharf which has been restored by volunteers. The weekend combines a canal boat rally, vintage & veteran cars / lorries and motorbikes as well as a few local engines and fairground type organ. There's a beer tent selling an excellent range of beers with entertainment. All in all an excellent weekend do.

The other engines attending were:

• Foden wagon No. 10694 'Tiler'
  
• Fowler DNB roller No. 17480 'Survivor'

The confined areas and crowds meant that the photographic opportunities were a bit limited

There is something aesthetically perfect with canals and traction engines sharing the same pictures.

Ben - can you read my mind?!!!!

I already have a rough which includes a traction engine, an industrial railway loco (0-4-0 saddle tank) plus wagons and a canal in the middle distance. I will dig it out and I may post it - I will see how it looks before making a decision.

I wrote in another post a few weeks ago about being annoyed when I find out about an event after it has happened - this is exactly what I mean! Aaaarrrrggghhhh...*teeth *cry :( !!!

The whole environment here, in these photos, is so good. The warehouse itself, including the brickwork with blue bricks, the windows and the roof all make for such an effective backdrop. And then there are the stone setts that form the road surface - as seen in my picture of the Duke of York. Add to these elements the canal, barges, sign writing etc. and you just about have enough material for a lifetime of creating artwork!

Great photos David! What did the Garrett weigh in at as a matter of interest?

The weigh bridge in the photo is no longer operational. We have weighed the Garrett elsewhere and comes in around 8 tons.

If you do it again next year would you give TT a heads up please. Looks an interesting event.
