Kemble 2009

A few of my 500 odd photos taken at Kemble this weekend.
Thursday evening provided fabulous soft evening sunlight and was just great for photography

But Saturday was much different - photos to follow

Friday morning dawned overcast and cool. The wind had changed direction and there were ominous black clouds on the horizon.
It was good seeing steam tow-starting infernal combustion for a change
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...9/DSCF1349.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...9/DSCF1351.jpg
There was much activity around the site

While others had a long lay after a 14 hour journey the day before
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...9/DSCF1356.jpg
Some had a lot of polishing to do

While others were missing - presumed still asleep - or hiding!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...9/DSCF1358.jpg
Some made smoke

While others slumbered on

The other two photos are of ''Broken Firebar'' polishing a Burrell, but not the Burrell ''Sams Boy'' would like

Sams Boy 5th August 2009 01:15 PM

I'm sure I would like that Burrell!!!

8_10 Brass Cleaner 5th August 2009 01:38 PM

I'm sure most of us would.

Yes, but I was not getting dirty and driving steam around all day - much as I would have liked to have done!

Great pictures Roy, and my fave engine is included. Looks like a great weekend was had by all.

How's the little Tasker, Hedd??

Thanks but bear with me. They were just a taster while I did the 26 videos on YouTube. Given time you will see some more. A few have already appeared on the thread "Captions please". If you have not seen them, have a look and give us your considered opinion of what was thought/said.

Steaming North 6th August 2009 07:04 PM

Roy. Vicky has spotted an inaccuracy on your second batch of photos here. "Saturday morning dawned overcast and cool" was actually Friday! These three day rallies are confusing aren't they?

Not the best tool on Tarmac, the strakes are a little lumpy. But it means you learn to drive it slow. Its a super little thing.

You are right, but Friday got out to sun and patchy cloud whereas Saturday threatened rain and got darker. There were times on Saturday when it was too dark for decent photography. I have checked my digital camera and I took more photos on Thursday evening than I did on Saturday having arrived mid-afternoon and not photographing until my camp was set up, but I took more on Friday than any other day due to the better weather. Sunday was spent filming movies from the engines and the ground plus doing some steering as well.
Because of the dark sky, I did not take a single photograph until 18.20 on Saturday where as I took 135 on Friday!

Yes, very confusing, and a senior moment. For the first batch read Thursday evening and the 2nd batch read Friday. Thanks for putting me right!

I will try to get the next batch right!!!

And now to Sunday (I got it right this time). Not a good photography day. A lot of dust in the playpen blown up by high speed sentinels. But here goes.

Your commentator has no complaints or criticisms to make - but then he's 'been there, done that', - you can't win as an organiser, can you? *think

(Might comment on intimidating behaviour by steam engine drivers.....)

There seemed to be a competition as to how close they could get to you without you moving!
I think you won hands down - they would not risk scratching their paintwork on your shed door!

There was - but I'm quite accustomed to such things happening!

Too right John, its hard work, and you can't please everybody no matter what you do.
