Duncombe park rally.

Been today in scorching weather, 48 engines and plenty to see, well worth a trip up , lovely setting in the Yorkshire hills.

Chris.

We called in last night after work. Got there just in time to have a ride down to the market place on the back of Ian Fearnley's DG6. The drivers seat was offered, but tempting though it was, I couldn't steal the pleasure from someone so dedicated! The atmosphere was wonderful, with people looking happy to be there and basking in the glorious weather this traditional club event has waited patiently for and so richly deserves. 5 star rally and well worth the treck over the moors. Vern.

Duncombe Park Rally.......Fantastic weekend

We just back from the show and would like to say a big thank you to the show organisers and staff for a fantastic weekend.....wall to wall sun shine, great line up of engines and tractors and the turnout of engines outside the beer tent on saturday night was just breath taking !!, do think that Eddie the flag man (entertainment) was missed so hope to see him back next year.
Well done to all for making it one of the best shows in the North Yorkshire.

jamiepreston 5th July 2009 09:21 PM

Great rally. Best rally in the North of England by a mile.

I called in for a few hours yesterday and can fully agree with all other comments, a superb rally in a beautiful setting. Highlight for me was seeing The President for the first time - not bad for a Burrell;), sounded nice too while hauling a claimed 80 tons up the hill to and around the arena.

Here's a few pics for y'all. Apologies for the usual poor quality - to me they are "snap-shots" as I'm always too busy trying to see everything in a short time!

Great Rally, in a fantastic location, I think its the largest gathering of steam engines north of the Humber, I counted 53 full size locomotives

A really good rally.
We had problems with leaking tubes after a long pull up Bransby Bank (1 in 6) with the drum behind and so did not arrive until Saturday p.m. However everyone was very helpful and we had a great time despite being knakered after the drive up there.
Thanks to everyone.

Cygnus X-1 6th July 2009 07:30 PM

I think I was leaving just as you arrived , I could just see an engine with thrashing drum making it's way up the road to the field , wish I had waited 30 mins longer .
Really good show this year thumbsup

Agree with all comments so far, really lucky with the weather as the roads were very wet by the time we got to Stokesly, and today would have been very wet.

Well done to Mick GB and the team for organising a very enjoyable weekend.

To be fair it doesn't look as bright as that in real life.

That Bonnie appealed to me. There was something about it compared to other Rollers

Some time ago there was a debate in Steaming about the colour of this engine. Northumberland County Council did go through a phase of painting their plant Blue. This may not be the correct shade, but the engine was Blue when in NCC ownership according to folklore anyway........ I know Weidner will disagree....

Pandora's Firebox 9th July 2009 11:46 AM

I don't suppose that is the blue Aveling that belonged to Weston's Cider and features on the label of some of their bottles is it?

I'm personally not too keen on the colour myself! Each to their own tho:eek:

Spudman 9th July 2009 08:55 PM

Thanks to all that supported The GYTEC rally at Duncombe Park. Hope to see you all next year. Many Thanks, Peter. thumbsup :D

It isn't I'm afraid, it's "Resolution", once in the ownership of Ed Bayles up here and has never been anywhere near Herefordshire. "Old Rosie" is a bit darker and has a copper chimney top.

AussieBill 10th July 2009 09:12 AM

do they still give out glasses?

Cheers, Will

That's it - "Old Rosie", both the name of the roller and the particular brew of Westons cider that features the roller on the bottle! Doh! I'd forgotten the name!

Many thanks to the GYTEC for a great rally. The atmosphere in the town was great on both the friday and saturday afternoons. already looking forward to next year!
