Anyone know what the air display was for. I assume that it wasn't to do with the rally as there was no mention of it in the programme. Maybe another event at the house?

Congrats to everyone involved in the show - I had a cracking day!

Timothy Hackworth Jr 14th June 2009 07:33 PM

Well, there were a lot of heavies on the gates on the way in today .I dread to think who was at the house! Fantastic once in though!

Ah, so the Goons In The Grounds aren't a Stapleford fixture then?

weidner 14th June 2009 09:47 PM

I gather that the Sultan of Brunei was there for a quiet weekend .

They were actually quality heavies , very polite , and could see the funny side of it . Apparently the shades are not standard issue . They complained that they have to buy their own .

But very CIA. I had a bizarre silent stand off at the gate, a total silence - no - you tell me what you are here for first - I'm not going to be the first one to speak - moment while facing two reflections of me with a gormless grin on my face. I thought Bagram would be the next stop for a minute ...

weidner 14th June 2009 10:25 PM

The joke was that they seemed to have come with a fleet of up to the minute Range Rovers , gray like their rather tight suits , which were smartly decalled " Discreet Security " . They were certainly not inconspicuous , so perhaps they meant " polite security " . I suspect that Lady Gretton would have played hell if they had overstepped the mark .

millsie 14th June 2009 11:38 PM

.

A quiet weekend is not what happened! the disco saturday night/sunday morning didnt finnish until 5.30AM. and there was quite a few high profile bands/artists playin throughout friday and saturday during the day
Mariah Carey
britney
witney houston,
oasis
beonce*
were to name a few.
they phoned Mr Worbey asking him to cancel the rally!
I think the fleet of range rovers are actually owned by the hotel, as the only one i could see connected with the security was the one with D15 CET as its reg no

John Robinson 14th June 2009 11:52 PM

I've just read on Wikipedia (so it must be true) that "he has a special interest in buying one-of-a-kind concept cars".

I'm off down the shed tomorrow ...

Wait and See really comes alive at night in those colours. Pity I couldn't stay till the evening.

Might I suggest that your fifth photo be titled 'Wait and See No Evil, Hear No Evil'?

Lancashire Lad 15th June 2009 05:52 PM

You must of got those last shots of "Wait & See" just after we'd got past!

millsie 15th June 2009 06:21 PM

yes it was, as u was Duke of Rutland on its lowloder, we were in the 4x4 and i was the one standing up out of the door lol. pitty they took her badk in bottom gear, hence my dad with his fingers in his ears takin the piss with clive driving

Bosiboz 17th June 2009 07:45 PM

I'm not suprised there was heavy security around Stapleford House looking at some of the dodgy characters lurking around the rally site!

I went on the Sunday for my first visit to Stapleford and had a great day , really nice setting and the railway is excellent .
Wait and See looked the part and painted in those colours makes it easier to get better results with the camera and the weather was perfect .

Here are a few shot's

Sod the heavies and the steam engines Zoom lenses were invented for the likes of Mariah, britney and beonce.

Whats wrong with you man!

Pride of Somerset 21st June 2009 04:14 PM

I gather that the Sultan of Brunei was holding a graduation party for his son.... Janet Jackson was there and Eva Longiora Parker (who?), with Chaka Khan (if that's the way you spell it) playing in the evening. All from the local paper website - which also stated that the flowers cost £70,000
Sorry - I missed the earlier post on celebrities....!

This was not the son who when learning to be a pilot was bought a Jumbo Jet by father as his 'driving school car'!

The air display was by the Yakovlevs based at Combe Abbas in Dorset - they fly three YAK 50s and one two seat YAK 52. Think I''ve got it right. Oddly enough I saw their ground support van passing through Taunton on the Monday after Stapleford.

Lancashire Lad 25th August 2009 12:26 PM

Some photos from Stapleford finally got round to uploading them, hope there of interest.
