MAY 30th/31st 2009 - ST. ALBANS STEAM AND COUNTRY SHOW

The Hertfordshire Steam Engine Preservation Society are pleased to be able to announce that their annual May 30th/31st 2009 steam event is being relocated to St. Albans. A mature parkland site has been made available by Oaklands College (Smallford campus); this is just off the A1057 St. Albans to Hatfield Road.

Explaining the reasons for the change of site, newly elected Society Chairman Andrew Harvey stated that ‘although we had some excellent rallies at the Leighton Bypass rally site, ground conditions have deteriorated severely over the last couple of years, leading to the cancellation of the 2008 event. There was also a feeling by our members that we should hold our rally within the county of Hertfordshire, and we are delighted to be able to move to such an attractive site near to St. Albans, Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City’.

It is expected that the show will present over 30 steam engines, old farm tractors, classic cars and lorries plus other bygones from our rich industrial and agricultural heritage. The Herts Steam Engine Preservation Society rally has been a well established event in the summer calendar of outside events.

The event will be held in the grounds of Oaklands College, just off the A1057 St. Albans to Hatfield Road. (Approx Satnav code AL4 0JA), and is only three miles from Junction 3 of the A1(M) motorway. Frequent bus services (routes 300, 301, 724) from Hatfield or St. Albans railway stations pass the site. Open from 10.00 to 5 p.m. on both days, entry charges have been held at the previous rate of £6.00 for adults, £3.00 for children, £5 for Seniors or £15.00 for a family ticket. Car parking is included.

All rally enquiries to: Andrew Harvey (HCL), 19, Beyers Gardens, Hoddesdon, Herts EN11 Phone 07896555097, email william9246@live.co.uk.

More engines arrived today, including Albert Fensom's Foden and the City of Oxford's No.3 steam roller. Steve now has the stakes in, and the sun is shining.

All the main culprits and their machines are now on the field. The sun is shining and everyone has commented on how attractive the site is and the ease of access. We are just on the edge of St. Albans (details above). So come and see us over the weekend! Sandy Ross

Well, the sunshine today has certainly made up for the last two years of rain at Leighton Buzzard. Everybody has commented on the attractive site at Oaklands, although at 7 pm tonight some of the usual high speed folk were taking off for local road runs in the area. Come and see us on Sunday. Sandy Ross (City of Oxford No.3, No.41 having a rest for a couple of weeks)

Had a fantastic day today.
great new site...

The only gripe was the very important beer tent ran out of beer by 2pm with another day to go tomorrow !!...
They clearly under-estimated how much us southerners drink. Did they seriously think six barrells would last a weekend ?

That'll be why a good handful of engines plus a good number of punters went to the local pubs...

Fantastic weekend, just got back, bl**dy hot even away from the engine, lots of familiar faces usual good crack, sat road run was good - made even better that our engine went to a completely different pub to that my wife's engine went to! Well done To Andy, Steve and all the herts club supports - same again next year boys

Not to bad today apart from my feet, but yesterday after we roaded to Codicote I was knackered.

I must also say a BIG THANK YOU to all the helpers.
Without we would not have been able to have made a succesfull show.

Well done to Steve and all the team for a great show in a really good location. I understand from a friend who visited, it was mentioned on Jonathan Ross's Radio 2 programme Saturday!:p

Hopefully the weather will hold out for Whitwell/Codicote this weekend.

Cheers
Dave
