Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2024

No doubt this Steam Rally has potential to get bigger and better in the coming years - Being a regular visitor to the Great Dorset Steam Fair, not once did attending Shrewsbury ever cross my mind. A wonderful turnout of Traction Engines on my visit last Sunday (92) and based on the long queue I passed upon arrival, getting my entrance ticket in advance was a very smart idea.

My photos can be found here - potential https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBF3Dp

A great rally as you say but a real pain to get in when coming from England with horrendous traffic jams.

some very nice photos there but you missed out a very lmportant model . the four wheel drive fowler in the ntec tent, a model of great skill in the making indeed

Looking at the top photo, I'd say that it's either 6" or maybe 9" scale, some years ago Les Vince from near Chelmsford built a 3" scale undertype 4wd Fowler.

6" according to the card on the rally stand . Built from a few old works photos , and perhaps a patent spec .

Ah yes, I see what you mean, a lovely thing and what model making should be. It’s up there with the Hornsby caterpillar engine,

Front axle is on a gimbal arrangment, the side diff gears are then on tubes bolted to the hubs rather than through the axle

Wow, model engineering of the very highest order.

So the story goes. I think its rubbish as there is no common parts and even the boiler is completly diffrent construction. Some records show that both engines were at one time with the same customer in nantwich though

glen233 2nd September 2024 04:36 PM

high wheeler

what i shall do when i get some time is post a photo of the high wheeler on the nantwich face book page and see if i get any replys for it ,being so strange looking it must of been recorded on photos some were.

James, you should also say that the records, record the one you built was a compound - but the photos show otherwise!.

Was it full size or 6inch as it looked to be about 9 inch to me .What a fantastic transmission system I did not even find time to ask questions just to much going on
I think I can say I have never even seen a picture of it in any book Time to get all the book out
Maybe I have the beginnings of brain-fade as 74 today !!
