For anyone who is interested in miniatures but has never driven one, there will be "Driver Experience" sessions on offer at this event on both days.

I'd be very interested in doing that.... how much are these sessions, please?
(I'm a member of MSRVS, if that makes a difference ;) )

I sincerely hope there are NO charges !

This is a hobby. I sincerely hope there are NO charges made to allow anyone interested to have a drive of a model.
As one who regularly lets, indeed encourages, others to drive, or in the case of smaller children, steer while I walk alongside and drive, I would NEVER dream of charging.
Besides which, by charging likely insurance would likely become more complex.
Naomi, get yourself over here and you can drive any of our engines as much as you like !
Regards David Powell.

I hear what you are saying, but some organisations do charge for driver experiences, so I'd have hated to assume it would be free... even a small fee wouldn't be unreasonable, just to cover coal costs etc.... but if there is a price to pay, I wanted to make sure I had the cash on me.... and if it is free, then that will be brilliant.....

and thank you for your kind offer.... I do hope our paths will cross, one day! x

That's useful to know actually.... I would like to charge for rides on mine (at certain events) - but proceeds will purely to go to a cancer charity... The Foster I am building is being named after my mum, Suzanne, who died in December after a 2 year battle with ovarian cancer - so I wanted a unique way of raising money for charity.... (I've already braved the shave and gone sober for October for MacMillan.... but thought this would be different; and the money will be going to Target Ovarian Cancer) <3

Look forward to meeting you at the weekend, Andy.

The normal thing at Tewkesbury is for a donation in the weekend charity bucket. Also a road run around the caravan site next door with the buckets rattling.
As a member you will probably get plenty of ride/drive offers, in and out of the arena for nowt.
See you there!

There is NO charge for the driver experience sessions. Our intention is to ask (NOT DEMAND!) for a small donation to our nominated charity. We have (at the last count) 4 engines and drivers willing to offer drives under instruction. Badge and certificate for completion. My wife Chris and I will be manning the club stand on both days (late start for us on Saturday however !) if you come to the stand and ask for Grum or Chris Swales we will sort the rest out for you. Will even loan gloves and safety glasses as required by our risk assessment.

Look forward to seeing you at the weekend!

Thank you Les, and Grum, that is fantastic.... I'd be more than happy to put some money in the pot!

If you sell polo shirts - I'd be interested in purchasing one, too....

Look forward to meeting the team! :) Not sure whether I'm coming up on the Saturday or Sunday yet......! Not decided!

Unfortunately I'll be 32miles (as the crow flys) to the east at the Bloxham Rally near Newbury all weekend, so many rallys and not enough weekends

Just to complete the thread - The driver experience sessions were a huge success based on the happy faces (quite a few grubby and smutty it should be said!) of everyone who came to collect their badge and certificate. A significant donation to Sue Ryder will be made in due course.

It interesting that for the first session on Saturday morning we had four engines offering driver experience - Sunday afternoon saw a really busy ring (12 engines going round) with a queue of engines awaiting their "trainees".

I am sure this will now become an annual "opportunity".

Thanks to everyone who supported our show. We will try and arrange similar weather next year!

naomicornish 25th June 2018 06:41 PM

I certainly enjoyed my day, and I am glad Sunday was a success, too.... was great to meet yourself, Derek, Peter, and both Chris', as well as other members with their engines around the field....
Looking forward to next year already! It was worth the drive up.... (just needs more entertainment for kids... that's the only thing)

Jonathan New 25th June 2018 07:38 PM

I went Sunday and become a member of the club. I was fortunate to have a driving session in the ring on Mr Sharpe's 4" Clayton & shuttlewoth which was my first ever experience at driving an engine. I then was given the opportunity to drive a 6" engine belonging to a member of the black country club, sorry I forgot his name. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Bullfrog 26th June 2018 11:19 AM

As previously mentioned all donations are going to Sue Ryder hospices, as soon as I get a confirmation of the total raised I will post details here. Thanks to all who took part and without a doubt a similar thing will take place next year.

Bullfrog 3rd July 2018 06:47 AM

The total raised for Sue Ryder was £283.40. A big thank you to all who took part in making this a success.
