That Foden in the last picture has changed somewhat since I last saw it!

1902 Ransomes Sims & Jefferies 14329.

A great do put on by the North Staffs club. The portable is a lovely thing with lots of original paint and lining.

Was really good to see the Calder's Foden. It's something else, a very nice job indeed.

Probably the best do we've had in a long time, the three Fowler DNB's are equally splendid and well turned out, the Cheshire visitor was a great engine to see with it being a former a resident, and then what in my opinion is the restoration of the year, the Calder boys three ton Foden!!

paumass 17th October 2016 08:23 PM

Cracking photos. We had a really good turn out of engines. Luckily the weather was kind to us.

Great photographs, looks like just the sort of event I like best.

+1 on the Ransomes portable, really like that.

The Foden is certainly a great transformation and a credit to the owners. What is the history of this engine?

New to Boots. There are pictures about of it with Boots. Both with a canvas cover as it is now and I think a box body. It ended up as a boiler and motion as a power source.

Jack Crabtree got it and built it into a tractor of sorts using what I nderstood to be a Whitlow rear axle.

Now restored more or less to as built condition

1882 19th October 2016 07:30 AM

The axcels were of a diesel Foden timber tractor with the engine mounted horizontally behind the cab.

The back one Chris, off a Whitlow. They (A Whitlow) had more or less the same front axle as a 6 tonner. So the front wasn't off one of them.
