Yes always good variety of exhibits at it, unfortunately the weather hasn't been good to them with the last few years, so there lucky to have hard ground for the engine's to stand on and the roadways of the castle grounds to drive on.

What's the small green tractor parked next to the Wallis 3 ton?

Interesting flywheel.

A little Ransome tractor, the man that restored her started with only a few original parts. Shes a little beauty her first appearance out after restoration was Shanes Castle 2014.

Any history?

The 3 ton wallis looks very nice itself (not one I've ever seen)

I'll see if I have a programme in the shed from 2014 as I didn't go last year and never bought a programme this year.

The engine was buried in a old quarry in Whitestown Co Wicklow. My wife's Grandfather often told me he remembers the engine being pushed in the quarry along with a fowler traction engine . He said when the were pushed there had been fairly well stripped . The Fowler was never recovered! !!!! .

Isn't there the remains of another one around Ireland somewhere Wesley ?

There is ment to be one somewhere around the west of Ireland.

Wallis & Steevens 3 Ton Tractor “Patience” built 1905

New to Thomas Moy & Sons, Colchester, England where it was initially used to haul coal before being purchased by a company in Guilford, Surrey who used it in market garden produce haulage.

In the mid 1920’s Greggs of Larne shipped the engine to Northern Ireland where it went into use in a quarry near Newtownards. Hallidays of Poyntzpass were using the tractor for sawing timber in the early 1950’s which is where it was last used commercially before being purchased by the late Jack Wallace in 1969 for preservation. Work did not commence until 1997 with completion in 1999 when it first appeared at Ballymena Steam Rally.

In 2003 it was shipped to the Great Dorset Steam fair to appear with the 3 other 3 ton Wallis & Steevens Steam Tractors for the 100th Birthday of Doc Ramones Engine, ‘Goliath’. The engine is now owned by Ivor Wallace, Ballymoney.

Ransomes, Simms & Jefferies Compound Traction Engine

Built 1927. Works No. 39070. 4nhp. Reg. No. IJ 5347. Built in 1927 and exhibited at the 1928 Royal Dublin Spring Show and was for sale at £300. Nothing is known about the engine from then until it was purchased in the 1940’s by William Manley of Baltingglass, Co. Wicklow, who was the last working owner.

It was purchased in 1998 for major restoration by the present owners, the Huey family of Browndod, Larne. Most of the work has been done in our own workshop and has only been possible with the help of many good friends.

WE were told of a steam tractor sitting on top of a derelict lorry in County Wicklow. I cannot remember where. However, we did find it and we identified it as likely a Ransomes tractor. I have a photo somewhere. If indeed this is that one then the restorers have done a wonderful job, she looked like a complete ruin then. regards David Powell.

What's the Wallis roller with the red back wheels

That wallis is ex Mayo county council it has only been rallied a few times with new owner Aidan Rochford first rallyit ever went to was Stradbally steam rally 2015 new boiler and firebox by Bickneils about 9 year ago . Very nice engine and very fast

We used to have a Wallis with the same wheels 5 horse single 7539 it was fast too
