Fawley Hill Steam and Vintage Weekend Friday 20th-Sunday 22nd May 2016

Surprised a thread has not been started yet, 80+ engines booked in and a variety railways represented to varying degrees.

Is anything special planning to turn up?

Is there a parade schedule? Or does anyone recall the time in 2014 when the parade took place?

Paul30013 13th May 2016 09:32 PM

Boiler test done, got new disc, new cross head fitted, brass polished and ready to go! Not been able to go before so really looking forward to it.

I don't think there was a parade in 2014, as such.

One of the many wonderful things about the events at Fawley Hill is that the organisation could best be described, in the nicest possible way, as light touch (ie no jobsworths in hi viz jumping on you saying moving your engine is an Elf & Safety hazard etc.)

If I remember correctly, halfway through the saturday afternoon someone decided it would be a good idea to take the engines into the ring, but......the ring was a bit small and the were an awful lot of engines!
Much entertainment was provided watching engines moving about trying to get into the ring and then trying out again.

The Fawley Hill events are such fun, everyone attending is in for a real treat.

(And the best food is from the Gurkha's mess tent!)

Had a bit of rainfall near the chilterns so how are things underfoot at the site?

avelingporter 18th May 2016 09:53 PM

I'm sat here in my living van and the breeze is drying things out nicely. Lady M says that although soggy now, the topsoil is thin and being on chalk it dries quickly. Bit wet and muddy in the entrance and greasy on the grass in the exhibitors camping. We had to abandon the roller as it slipped sideways on a cross slope.

So if Lady M is right, and one would not doubt her, it should be all good tomorrow.

Douglas
