Basket case!

With "Onward" nearing completion I am looking for a new project!
What is out there?
It has to be uk based or have an export licence.
It does not have to be rare, anything considered..............something that no one in their right mind would take on!!
Origins must be known and significant part(s) available.
Please don't tell me you have a front roll for an aveling roller or send me on a wild goose chase to something not for sale!
Open to sensible suggestions/ offers.
Please P.M me.
Dave Eves.

Theres a nice Aveling ploughing engine at Preston Services that needs some TLC...... I think she is a basket case too.

How about:

1. The Aveling ploughing engine at Prestons if you can get it at the right price!

2. MLB also has a Tuxford steeple engine that is reputedly from a traction engine used in some military trials in the 1860s.

3. A Merryweather 'FireKing' self-propelled fire engine. Last UK one cut up in the 1940's. No bits known but a 'Gem' engine would make a good.

Good luck.

Roger

You will be too busy polishing brass to do anything else!.......

steaming chappers 27th September 2015 09:19 PM

Couple of engines still in scrapyard rushgreen motors near Hitchin herfordshire one of them may be of interest, the lampit Mr lidgitt has would be a could project if it was for sale

onward 28th September 2015 07:07 PM

The Aveling plougher is a choice engine. But the useable bits are worth about 10K!
Only looking to pay what a project is worth..............or I will start from scratch again!
You have to look at what is left once you have scrapped the boiler, tender, tanks etc.

Cheers all !

Yes the ex Potter Bros Aveling Steam Bus which was residing at Rush Green Motors comes to mind. Would provide a spot of light relief after your Onward project Dave!!

How about the Yukon Hornsby Foster Crawler.... If not the original, how about a new build?....

Good luck with what ever you find!

Regards

Jonathan

Not a basket case, but it would be nice to see a belmec savage back in steam. Haven't a clue where they are or in what state.

Allchin 3 speed road loco

Berrybrook Steam 29th September 2015 04:41 PM

Dave,
How about completing a Savage "Little Samson" which is a new build running on air waiting for a tender, pipework and cladding to complete. All parts are present and the engine would be unique when done.
See www.berrybrooksteam for more details.

Someone else has already suggested a big Allchin!

There is one a few miles from your house which is ex Austrlia, came back about 30 years ago I think now and hasn't done anything as its suffering from a cracked block I believe. The work I would believe would be right up your street mate!

richbart01 29th September 2015 06:29 PM

remains of k7 here - only problem is persuading mrs S to part with them !

There is one in steam in North Wales that we got running and displayed at GDSF 3? years ago.

The Australian Allchin RLs were only 2 speed. That one for sale ex Australia (illegally exported) certainly is a basket case.

We seemed to get plenty of 2 speed haulage engines. Rough roads perhaps.

Batho roller would be good, or how about a Crompton Road Steamer? Tony Brown has probably got enough details

carl_byrne 30th September 2015 04:08 PM

Dave, I know you are a 'doer', to say the least. However, don't you think you have earnt a rest and should sit back, preferably on the hot footplate of Onward, and reflect on your massive achievement, one that most of us mere mortals can only wonder at! A brand new B6 Superlion built in a shed in the garden - no disrespect to your 'shed/workshop'.

Cheers Carl.

A pair of original Fowler Motor Ploughing Engines if they can be bought would be a first on the rally scene.

Patent motor 30th September 2015 06:37 PM

10 horse Wallis road loco would be nice

SDSPS 30th September 2015 09:17 PM

Fowler B6 new build with a bollard crane?
