Pickering latest
I have read with interest the recent posts on the steam rally at Pickering Showfield and am amazed that nobody has realised the local authority did not grant a licence for the rally this Monday. A decision on whether to grant a licence has been deferred until a meeting of the council next week. Its going to be tight as some of the crews were going up Sunday.
|
Still a farce then! Surely you would've had the licence paperwork dealt with months ago?
|
This all seems very strange. Perimeter fencing erected, security on site. Also signs in the Market Place informing public that the street will be closed on Saturday 1st August from 16.30hrs. Seems a lot of trouble and expense if no licence granted.
But this is Pickering rally we are talking about. |
Maybe somebody could explain/clarify what is meant by a 'licence' for the event?
|
I guess an Alcohol Licence, no Licence no Beer.

Have e-mailed organiser to see what is going on.

See http://ryedale.gov.uk/component/tags...c-notices.html
I don't know if 1 month is the normal notice period.. |
Seems straightforward enough to me... Also seems an odd introductory post from a new user, unless they have an agenda of course....

As long as we dont need to listen to the moaning on here in the aftermath. IF you go to one or the other good luck to you.
|
If you read the guidelines for the grant of a premises licence - which this is, then -
Only the police can object If there are no objections then the grant is all but assumed Strikes me that any adjournment is to allow a site inspection and clarification, as a refusal could be very, very messy, as the promoter now has a track record of events elsewhere in the country that have gone off smoothly. I am not going and am not involved in either - but I do know the one I would not attend! |

I know where I will be hopefully going.
have been for over 10 years hopefully it will now get better each year, and get back to the size it used to be. |
Pickering Showfield Rally, Licence granted last night, Police didn't object, so it's all go, that info from somebody who attended the meeting.

Just picked my Internet in tenerife then rung a couple of friends. Pickering is filling up she tells me however another show planned to be run this weekend doesn't seem to be going as well. This person also informs me that the organiser for a different show on the same weekend also put an objection in to pickering being approved. I ask you I am glad to be on holiday at least it is better here in tenerife. ...

I'm at Pickering rally now. Much the same as last year. Loads here, plenty of visitors and campers. Hearing some stories about Pickering 2 and it sounds like a bit of a disaster. Quite a few pulled on here after booking on Pickering 2. Loads of people have apparently paid for Pickering 2 but never received any passes or acknowledgment.! Weather is a bit changeable but who cares

Not been to Pickering rally for over 20 years, going to have a ride up Sunday and have a look.
|
Will be down tomorrow for the day
|
Good to see people coming who haven't been for awhile. Hope you have a great time. In fact I'm sure you will.

Went up yesterday first ever visit to Pickering and took 10 ton of proper steam coal.
Good atmosphere lots to see loads of traders, 30+ engines, 3 stage shows i would say well done to all and hope it will get back on track. We need to encourage new organizers. |
Was not going to go despite living within the 2 miles. Previous posts described it a great improvement so popped into the Pickering rally this morning. Although it was the one on the A169 near Pickering was totally different to what is described above. £12.00 entrance fee. Nothing happening, some engines still sheeted down. Stall holders packing up at 10.15 and going home. They told me been quiet all weekend. Large building, notice board outside said craft and fine food. Inside tat, Pork Pies, Pasties and Pork scratching. Managed to spin it out to 90 minutes, 35minutes spent talking to an old friend I had not seen for a couple of years. As we left noticed several tractors and other exhibitors leaving despite people still going in and being charged full admission charge. Things will have to change before I venture back.

I visited today for the first time in three years and enjoyed the day , as a member of the public I think it's more organized than I remember .
Good selection of engines to see and I got parked across the road from the show field , not fields away as in the past . It would be great if owners of showmens engines had the same attitude as the Saunders guys and parade the engines round the arena . For me it's heading in the right direction :D Dave |
We went with the Marshall and from the perspective of an exhibitor it was like any other rally - some good bits, some less so. What struck me though was the sheer effort that all involved had put into the thing, despite the well-documented bickering (see what I did there?) between current and previous organisers.
What makes a rally though is not the organisers but the exhibitors, and it was a great privilege to be amongst a fine bunch who all put in a lot of effort to make it as interesting and enjoyable for the paying public. So well done them, and well done the organisers for trying their hardest to make it all happen. |
Went up to Pickering yesterday for the first time in years and have to say I was pleasantly surprised, however I was also a little disappointed to see exhibitors leaving early (one at 9.30 in the morning), unfortunately this seems to have become the norm at a lot of rallies lately, the excuse "we've been here all weekend and it's a long way home" isn't really a valied reason in my opinion as you know that when you enter, at the end of the day it's people paying to come through the gates that keep these things going and empty spaces will soon put them off returning. All that said I think with a little time Pickering could get back to being the event it once was.
