Goldsmith Spring Rally
I will be attending the Lake Goldsmith Rally next weekend.
Just thought to ask if there is anyone out there who would like a picture of something in particular. Won't make any promises but if I know I will have a shot at finding it for you. |
Since there were no requests I will just have to share what tickled my fancy.
Apologies if I include something from a past thread but I am old and tis hard to recall exactly what I pointed my camera at last time. Each rally Goldsmith tries to have a theme. This time the theme was the products of the Caterpiller Co. I won't fill this thread with pictures of all the examples that turned up but a few are worthy of mention. My favorite was this beastie. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21094 A real days work to get it to do some miles. Here is the history and a few close ups. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21093 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21095 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21096 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21097 A couple of others that caught my eye were these two. No doubt there will be a full report in another place where such things are higher on their list. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21088 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21087 |
My favorite steam toy of the weekend was this great little machine from the US.

It would at least ensure they completed their journey as quickly as was possible. One way to get productivity up. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21072 |
I had a chance to get a few good pictures of the Clayton wagon. Another nice machine.

We were talking about big engines in another thread and I found this in a shed. Enjoy.

Here is another machine that I have never seen leave its shed. Looks great but do not know if it runs.

A few other machines I spotted in my travels during the day.

There were not many models this time. I think the weather put them off.
It rained and it showered then after a brief bit of sun it hailed yet I still managed to get sun burnt. Serves me right for not wearing my hat. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21099 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21100 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21101 One bloke had the right idea. Bring your model on a big trailer and when you are ready put the car on the trailer and it becomes the load for your model. Of course you need a good size model to do that but I think he had it covered. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21104 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21103 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21102 |
Goldsmith has a reasonable size parade ground and the middle is usually used to demonstrate ploughing with a pair of ploughing engines. This year they decided to let the Catapiller people have a play and gave permission for them to dig a bit of a hole as long as they filled it in again at rally's end.
When last I looked the boys were sure getting into the spirit of things. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21092 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21091 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21090 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21089 Something small and different to finish off. A nice little steam turbine. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...ictureid=21107 More next time. |
Found one more model. Love the tarps on the roof.

I can't see any pics? Have you set the album to public?
|
Better fix that.
Also put this in the wrong place. Perhaps the site admin will oblige by moving it to show reports Thanks |
Great pictures Stephan, looks like a good time was had by all
Thanks Arthur |
Thanks Stephen, looks to be a venue to visit on my bucket list.
You annotated the large model with the disco on the trailer, however it is a 3 ton Wallis tractor and is full size. Just it is the smallest usually made full sized engine by the UK manufacturers. Douglas |

I think it has a smoke box regulator and super heaters, hence the lever. |
The lever is for a damper in front of the big tubes on the top row.
The regulator is in the normal place on the top of the cylinder. I can't see how it can thus be superheated. It is a new build. |
Thank Stephen, so is it a large model or a replica...I'll let others debate that one! Nice all the same.

It is a nice thing. I am only relating what others have told me about it. They may well be mistaken.

I like where the rifle is kept on the Foden, nice and handy.
Could certainly come in handy round here :) |
