South Cerney

Is there any way of finding out beforehand what exhibits will be attending? I am particularly interested in Foden steam and diesel. We are attending for the first time this year so imagine we will be seeing things we have not seen before. If I know ahead of time, I can check if I have any photo's etc.in my archive and get copies for the owners or gather anything of interest ready for taking down and handing over or showing rather than a follow up exercise. (All F.O.C. of course)

Steaming North 4th July 2014 08:04 AM

I think it's hard work for the exhibitors to find out if they're going so far David.

CillitBang 4th July 2014 09:37 AM

Your best bet is trying the information line David - 01453 890891
The diesel side will be pretty straight forward but as been hinted at, the circumstances around the steam section will make getting information about what is attending a bit more difficult. i believe entry forms are still being returned so the final list of attendees will probably not be available until just before the show.
We'll be there though so come and seek us out - No Fodens I'm afraid but we have a large supply of tea and biscuits, a sense of humour and the occasional Burrell.

The People's Front of Judea had a hastily arranged meeting today to decide if they where attending !. ;)

Unfortunately Pedler won't be there this year, nothing to do with the politics, just unable to get transport for the engine and crew to commit to three days. Shame because we always enjoy Sth Cerney; still, room for one more in the village on Saturday evening!! *cry

Steam Extravaganza 7th July 2014 11:39 AM

No politics involved.

The organisers feel they know more about what is needed to safely provide for over 130 full size engines than I do (that's what was confirmed).

I disagreed, resigned and moved on.

All entry forms are still sat here awaiting collection by organisers, which hasn't happened.

I have previously publicly encouraged everyone to still attend, but I am not accountable for anything that happens prior to, during or after the event.

In answer to your question David, 5 Steam Fodens, and a number or rarely seen Timber Tractors were originally booked to attend.

stefan mlynek 10th July 2014 08:35 PM

I have been troubled by this thread for a long time and have decided to comment, although I know I will get slated by some. What the heck?

I was at Pickering in 2009 when "all hell let loose". For weeks afterwards numerous posts appeared on this forum with members, quite rightly in my opinion, pointing fingers and blaming individuals for the debacle.

Yet now we approach the South Cerney event, where their Club should be looking forward to celebrating its 40th Rally, and some on here seem to be praying for it to be a failure.

South Cerney is an excellent event, thanks in no small part to the hard work and dedication of one T.T. member. He has now passed his particular baton on.

I shall be at South Cerney in a couple of weeks time, and I will judge it as I find it. If they make a good fist of it I shall continue to support them, because the event and our hobby is more important than any one individual. And if it turns out to be a dogs dinner then I shall spend the first weekend of August next year somewhere else.

But at least I'll give them a chance.

Stef.

Wsra rally at Norton Fitzwarren Taunton are very happy to take more engines for the undecided of you. It's on the same weekend as South Cerney. They have a free steam train trip for all exhibitors on Friday evening from the platform on the show field to Minehead and back. Every year they have more roads to move around on. Also an organised road run on Saturday.
Mike.

Steaming North 10th July 2014 10:21 PM

Stef, you have read the situation completely different to me - I don't believe people are wishing it to fail.

Colin Dix 11th July 2014 06:04 AM

Has anyone got there passes yet?

Do not make me out to be the bad guy here. I have not told you the full facts surrounding my resignation, and until I do you do not know them.

Established exhibitors know the reasons and fully understand and for the most part respect them. First time attendees, like you are unaware of the numerous issues - and can make their own minds up.

I have been nothing but helpful to the organisers. If they decide to treat people the way they are, that is their way not mine.

I fully support the event, I spent years building it to what it was, do you really think I gave it up to **** the show over? Or do you think I had genuine reasons?

Like you I will be there but instead of running around in circles, I will be relaxing in the shadows of the two engines I am taking.

Colin Dix 11th July 2014 03:59 PM

so I ask again . . . Has anyone got there passes yet?

aveling11956 11th July 2014 04:26 PM

Passes are just back from the printers and will be sent out in the next couple of days.

Colin Dix 21st July 2014 03:51 PM

My passes for south cerney arrived today, all I need to do now is find a way of transporting the engine from Welland to the show. C U there

Who's there?

Woohoo got my online tickets and excited to be going to this rally. Who is there already? What engines are going? Has there been any rain on site today? Just hoping for a dry day tomorrow*party

minicooper 1st August 2014 07:16 PM

By my reckoning there were 70 full size engines there on Friday
An interesting unidentified portable in the RLS tent
Said to be Unidentified Maker (1) in register built 1840.
Sharp shower around lunchtime, otherwise dry day until I left at 15.30.
