Does anyone know what the ground conditions are like? I may visit on Sunday but I'll give it a miss if it's muddy. Also, can anyone give me a post code for the Sat-Nav? If Swindon is not looking good, how are they getting on at Bloxham (Banbury)?

Thanks in anticipation.

Michael

Been today! No problem with ground! Rollers were moving about all day and I didn't see anyone get stuck! You won't find a more relaxed and friendly rally! Couldn't recomend it enough!

TrickyT 29th June 2014 06:20 AM

Was a great day, rain tried to spoil it, but it needed to try harder to dampen the enthusiasm of these guys.

Ground held up well with no issues.

Sat nav is SN4 0SN

We attended around midday on Saturday when the weather was not co-operative. However, it was well worth the effort and for those yet to go, Sunday's forecast is much better.

29 full-sized engines as promised and a very friendly atmosphere.

Pictures from Saturday are here:

Attended Sunday as usual a really good friendly rally.

Question though does anybody have any further details on the Merryweather Fire Pump that was located down near the road making demonstration area, shame it wasn't in steam?

Thanks

Pete

A clip of Fair Rosamund climbing the steep hill on one of the routes of the road run! Incidentally the only two engines to choose this steep route were two Wallis products! Says a lot I think!

I think its 1943 or 46 and at times it was in steam very quick to steam up but cant be left at all so when the operator wants a brake rake the fire and relight later pumps one hell of a lot of waterthumbsup

The acceleration of that wallis is very impressive

If its anything like ours, you can watch the water level go down in the glass when its running full bore.

Ours is the smaller Valiant type, the type with the parallel boiler/firebox. 100gallon/minuite from memory. The bigger ones with the conical firebox will do at least double that.

That is a particularly tough climb. Would have been very interesting if they had to stop to make the right hand turn. Most engines either go to one of the pubs down the hill, or go up Kite Hill, which is not as steep.

Here are a few pictures from outside the New Calley Arms

My little grey fergie is parked up in the corner.

I agree with all the other posts, it is a very good rally. Very much of the old school - friendly with plenty to see and good quality side stalls.

I have put a few clips together. I particularly liked the Burrell in working clothes.

'The Fair Rosamund is some engine. Note the confidence shown in the steersman by the driver and the confidence in his engine, well done Vincent, beautifully handled and a lovely sound.
Wanborough was 'Pedler's' stamping ground from 1915 to 1948. It would be nice to be able to get her down there next year!

I think its the same as yours, parallel boiler lots of copper tubes. Needs a good driver when working hard
