Graham's toy train set gets more elaborate and impressive every year! Good on him!

Fair play to him for sharing it in the way they do, must take some organising. |
There was also an Aveling Tractor in the bottom yard, though not a statfold Engine, I'm sure somebody will know who the owner is and why it's there. Didn't know you were there today David, we must have missed each other again.

9267, Mr Henton's, like the Burrell.
No, it was mainly railway sorts but I did see a couple of familiar faces. |
I absolutely love the sign-writing on the motion cover of the Aveling roller. If the time is taken to carefully study archive photos of engines when they were working machines, often the motion covers were sign-written with the name or business of the owner. For whatever reason it is something rarely seen on engines today, which I think is a shame because it looks so good!

Nice to see the BB completed, I saw it when very dismantled and a hell of a lot of work has been done. The big Aveling is looking splendid too.
Fabulous place and inspiration for that EuroMillions win...!! |
Has the BB been steamed yet , and will it be 'out' this year ?

What a lovely pair of rollers.
I see on 10005 both the feed pump and injector feeds are both fed into the boiler into one fitting on the top of the boiler, as opposed to two clacks one each side. Each pipe has its own non return valve, I assume in addition to a single non return in the top fitting? Is this Avelling or a later modification? http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/14...n/DSC_7947.jpg http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/14...n/DSC_7952.jpg |
It is definetely Aveling my E type was 10048 and had the same set up. When on the road with living van and trailer with 250 gallons of water and a couple of tons of coal and having stormed up the chiltern hills the tubes would leak when you got to the top and put the injector on. No the door had not been open when going up the hill it was the fact that the clack is directly above the firebox tube plate and the cooler water hitting it set the tubes leaking, eventually the problem was cured by fixing a stainless steel plate to the longitudinal stays which deflected the infeed water. Problem cured. I suspect there were a lot of complaints from customers who had purchased early piston valved Avelings and the system revised.

Whens the next open days ?????.
Thanks. Chris. |
There are two remaining open days this year, they are:- 7th June and 13th September
September has a gathering of road engines in steam and some vintage vehicles in the field adjacent to the line. Admittance is via ticket only and you are welcome to apply for a ticket via an application form (click on link below to get a copy of the form). Please note that they operate a strict 14 years and over policy on the railway and grounds during the open day. http://www.statfoldbarnrailway.co.uk...%20Railway.pdf |
thanks Stuart.

Hi, we supplied some machinery for their oil side of the business. I was lucky to get a private viewing of all their steam things. It's a wonderful place, Henry and Graham are very lucky chaps.
