The Star of the road run without doubt the little Yorkshire wagon! It kept plodding along, flew up the hills! Shame not all of the Showmans reached the end! Weather was great, Scenary great and the Engines looked great too! Good day, we dont have hills like that down here!

Steam Scenes 7th July 2013 07:55 PM

Some more pictures taken at the rally yesterday.

Aveling & Porter 2107, very early TE sold at a recent Cheffins auction:

A Burrell which I have not seen for a long time, 2093 The Duke of Ongar:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/13...0-DSC_8051.jpg

First time I had seen A&P 14071, a former North Riding CC / Guy Potts engine which is fantastically original:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/13...1-DSC_8087.jpg

Burrell 3526 Lightning II, owned by Great Yorkshire Traction Engine Club President Richard Preston:

Fowler BB1 15155 arrives in the showground:

Fowler 17506, formally Undaunted, now Little Dawn with new owners:

Fowler Road Locomotive 15462 Ajax, the engine steamed on the road to the event, a journey of 50 miles:

Now sporting a canopy, Burrell 2696:

Fowler K5 ploughing engine 11082
being driven by owner Robert Goodwill, MP for Scarborough.

Two fine road locomotives from the Steam Plough Works, Fowler 15649 & Fowler 17106:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/13...2-DSC_8492.jpg

Absolutely loved this roller, Fowler 16851 a former Whitby Urban District Council engine:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/13...8-DSC_8933.jpg

A&P 4232 a big early compound roller which went new to Denbigh Corporation:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/13...7-DSC_9033.jpg

Another engine with new owners and not been seen a rally in a number of years, Burrell SCC Roller 2623:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/13...3-DSC_9050.jpg

And two engines which were kindly posed in front of the house, a very imposing setting.

Marshall 32092 Black Bess:

Foster 14632 Success:

There were loads more engines there which I pictured, I will get some of them all on Steam Scenes during the week.

Here is one of the photos I took of them on the road, passing through Sutton on the Forest with about 10 miles to go!

Certainly is (even for a Burrell :p) and probably bigger than a full sized Fowler T3!

I visited on Saturday and thought it was the best rally I had visited in a long time with plenty to see, perfect weather (a little too hot for some) and a perfect backdrop. My only complaint, as is with many rally nowadays - a few too many showlers!

A selection of some of my favourites (taken on t'iphone, so quality nowhere near that of David's above):

Yawwwwwwwn, Yawwwwwwwn, Yawwwwwwn, We're are my pills....(Conversion from Steam Roller to Showmans Traction Engine).............all of these 8 words are in the Oxford English Dictionary. Showlers or even Shrowlers are not part of the English Language. If you thought that there were to many conversions at the rally, I understand what you are saying.

notyalc 8th July 2013 08:13 PM

They seemed to make a better job of the Friday road run than the real ones though.....

Ok thanks for the English lesson, not sure I'm any the wiser for it, but I'll remember to check the dictionary for any future posts (if i should bother), now we're did I leave it?

great pix for a phone paul -- thanks very much -- even as one of the organising committee I have to agree with all your sentiments.

If anyone has any pictures or videos off the road run it would be nice to see them.

Pandora's Firebox 9th July 2013 07:45 AM

Jamie, go to the start of this thread for pics of the road run. I would also like to see a vid if anyone has one.
