flywheel

Looking for a 4` 6" dia 6 spoke flywheel with 7" rim as it looks like we have two cracked spokes. Can anyone help please?

I would bet that you could cast a new one off your old one , after a bit of preparation . Ring or pm me .

Could do, but rim is bent! always has been since we got it, which is probably the cause of the cracking.

One idea i had was to remove the spokes, re-align and then weld up again. We had our block repaired by Slinden Welding services - very good job too, but a replacement flywheel would be quicker to sort, and allow us out this season.

What have you done about your flywheel Single speed? I for one am on tenderhooks!

single speed 12th April 2013 07:22 PM

Considering all the options at the moment.

1 - Weld up old flywheel
2 - Cast new
3 - Aquire replacement
4 - Give up!

How do you "bend" a flywheel!

Ok latest update

The flywheel has today been sent to Slinden services for welding. Will post some pics as and when I get them

OK, the flywheel has all been welded up. 2 spokes had fatigue fractures. Should be back with us tomorrow.
Here's a pic of it having been welded, NDT tested, shotblasted & primed.
Many thanks to David Russell of http://www.castironwelding.co.uk (Slinden Services) for his prompt service.
Highly recommended.

But surely if the relevant NDTs have been carried out by a competent person, it's no more of a liability than a 100 year old untested-in-anyway original flywheel..?

Cast Welding

My father pinned and cast welded the diff gears on the Clayton & Shuttleworth 34060 my brother now owns after the gear snapped in 1990 or 1991.Engine still driving and pulling loads perfectly Tom

Ours was done by the same guy and to he same lloyds code as our block repair and that's under 160psi. I have no problem with modern techniques as long as its done properly
