Great news Clive.

I was worried that there might have been a struggle for a replacement venue now the Three Greyhounds has gone posh. It's a nice spot with some nice lanes to run around.

With luck we will have both engines there.

John

Flashback 15th March 2013 06:28 AM

I will be there, will be a great weekend if anything like the three greyhounds last year, just hope the weather is better.

Don't worry Dwain the sun is always shining when viewed through beer goggles!

bjwlancashire 26th March 2013 12:39 PM

Subject to getting my replacement cylinder block on Blackbeard I will be there on Sunday - with or without the engine. Hopefully Dwain will be in steam, or rather his engine will.

Regards

Brian

buzzy bee 26th March 2013 08:04 PM

I have seen a fire in one.... :-)

davidje 27th March 2013 01:44 PM

That's one to look forward to and sits nicely between Llandudno and Anglesey.

Cakes everyone? *sick

Flashback 27th March 2013 09:15 PM

Both Brian's have had a bad run with both having to replace cylinder blocks that is why mine is in steam only. I hope to see all three in steam at the doo and the roof is on the way. After the steam test I have now started chasing the leaks and hope to have it rebuilt by the 11th May.

Dave I have missed the cakes.

Hi James

It has been a while and I did not see you at the Model show this year but it was late in the day when I got to the area where the Urmston portable track was set up. Had a fire in mine 4 times as I chased the leak. Check out my build thread on STW forum for pics and a video of it ticking over.

I WILL get my engine to this event if the cylinder is delivered in time. Hopefully Brian M and I can then put this behind us and get on with enjoying our engines.

I am also curious about the cakes that keep getting mentione whenever DAVIDJE is present! :p

Brian

buzzy bee 28th March 2013 06:46 AM

Very Very Nice Cakes at that! :)

James Tilbury 29th March 2013 07:50 PM

Brian,
This cylinder block stuff sounds distressful. What was the problem exactly ? I look forward to seeing it. Will you be doing the local cheshire shows? .. Although I am to busy to bring engine this this do as I will be finishing bits for school I may be able to make an appearance with mark to catch up ... May be on evening or afternoon would be possible, hopefully. Look forward to seeing you all.

It is a casting fault but not found until pressure or steam applied, I do not recall seeing the hole or would have questioned it when I first saw the cylinder block. It is a 21 core casting so a very complex piece of work and it could be a that a core moved slightly in the casting process. That or the wall between the live steam channel up the centre of the block and the exhaust steam passage has not cast completely around the area where they are closest. Either way the result is a small hole that was probably blocked with casting sand or the thinest web of iron so hiding it until it was to late.

At the bottom of this post is the view of my block after I stripped everyting off it, look up the exhaust passage.

STW have the next batch of cylinder blocks on the machine now so it is just a case of waiting for them to be machined as there were none left in stock.

For the Chetwode Arms event I will onlt be available on the Sunday as I have a previous commitment on the Saturday with my engine at a private event for the club that is testing my boiler. We can alway catch up on the phone sometime.

Cheers

Brian

Ben you had better go; if not who's water can I nick!!!!!!! Bill says you never work anyway.

Gaudin98 9th May 2013 07:39 AM

Should be there with our old Land rover.

Clive Hearsey 9th May 2013 10:16 PM

The weather looks like it might be against us but we will have to make good use of the pub!!

I should be getting there late morning, as I am going to road the engine there, so do not dispare and please organise yourselves, the big engines and heavy vehicles are to go in the top car park and the miniatures, those camping and cars are to go on the grass as close to the edge of the car park.

The Landlord & Landlady is Richard and Claudia.
