Time for another try?
Its been a while since my last wanted add so I thought I would have another try! Has anyone got any Fowler Traction engine parts? I have an R class which is missing many pieces, I haven't touched the engine in a while but I'm about to get started again. If you have anything Fowler, let me know! Off the top of my head, I need: Valve gear Con Rod Cylinder top / valve cover Eccentric straps An eccentric rod Front cylinder covers Boiler fittings Flywheel Gear Change lever Bearing Caps Blast pipe Steering Wheel, also worm and gear Oilers Governors Spud Pan.... Also patterns for any of the above! Any offers? Hope someone can help! |
Fowler parts
Hi,
I have no original parts but I could make some of the parts for you. If I can help then call Steve on 07896 207633. |
Which Steve is that?
The block is off to Steve Baraclough soon! Paul |
10242 is a Fowler A4 Compound general purpose Traction Engine.......ex Australia

While your'e in the shed looking for bits, I'm looking for the same list of parts for an A7/A8 compound 11489, i'm also after a 2nd shaft complete with gears.
Ever hopeful |
Preston Steam Services have some Fowler parts on their website, eccentrics and other motion bits so may be worth a look.

Thanks Andy, I was down at Preston Steam on Sunday but unfortunately all of the parts were just a little too big! There are a pair of Fowler expansion links in the pile if anyone needs them -mine are the wider sort and they are the narrower. I drive a couple of ploughing engines and the eccentric rod and straps were probably more that size than for standard traction engine. One pair of bearing caps were right the other were wrong - Michael didn't want to split them though :(.
Oh one more thing...my engine had a full export licence and was advertised in Australia as being for parts and beyond restoration! As a former member of HMRC who dealt with Cultural Goods Policy at the time of import, I made sure that the engine was imported entirely legally! Cheers folks! Paul |
Have sent you a private message. David Ragsdale has a pattern for a blast pipe I think, I no he does for an A9, not sure if its a different design though or not, He may also have other patterns that may help such as the steering wheel. There is a pattern out there for a steering wheel as i'm sure there was a new casting sold on ebay about a year ago.
what governors & oilers is it your after?? Dan |
I don't have any oilers so any offers considered! Unfortunately cas is tight as I'm also doing up my first house..., I bought the engine before I could really afford it but didn't want to pass up the oportunity.
On the governors, I want to put pickering ones on but not sure of size at mo...a few things like a boiler and motion to sort before that! I will have to get in touch with Mr Ragsdale as I understand he also has a flywheel pattern. Cheers P |
I don't suppose there are any kindly New Zealand engine owners out there who read these pages and might know of any parts available over there? I'm not after a complete engine! But I do need a fair few parts and if I was able to get a few together it might well be viable to get them put in a packing crate and ship back. Thoughts, views?

I haven't heard anything from any guys or gals in New Zealand? Is there anyone out there who can help??
Cheers and happy steaming folks P |
REPLY to FOWLER 10242
We have an unmachined casting for A / R class Blast Pipe ( and the pattern ) . We made this in error for a BB ploughing engine, which is bigger. We also have most of the drawings for A / R class engines . If we can help with anything else, let us know. MARK INDUSTRIAL CRANKSHAFTS LTD. WOLVERHAMPTON 01902 422144 |

Will call you tomorrow, will also need my crankshaft grinding when I have a little more cash! Cheers Paul |
No its definitely an R Class

As stated in my wanted ad, the engine is an R class...you can be forgiven for being mistaken as many parts are interchangeable however the R Class had bigger wheels, steering arangement was slightly different and I think the cylinders are slightly bigger bore. Although the build and order sheets dont exist the export sheet does - originally exported to Fowler's Sydney agents. Cheers Paul |
