The fairground was lacking in the showmans department this year...perhaps Mr Wakeham can improve things for next year by selling me a nice one !

It certainly looks like summer down there !.:D

Had an absolutely brilliant weekend! The weather couldn't have been better. A great selection of engines as always and nothing beats being able to run around the estate to your hearts content. Hundreds of pictures here:

What happened to Bodicea's Registration Plate? has it been re-registered or is this engine a replica?

Late Western 23rd July 2012 06:55 PM

If you had made the effort to go (who wears the trousers in your house? ) you would have seen it is a scale version Thomas.

And a superb version too - I mentioned my commentary that I took a similar ground level shot to Steve's at Abbey Hill, and apart from the number plate you can hardly tell the difference. Built and owned by Bill Kiddell - a ten year effort.

As others have said, a fantastic weekend - excellent weather, superb surroundings and the usual unbeatable Cornish welcome, friendliness and camaraderie. My first time as commentator at Boconnoc, and I was delighted to be asked back for next year.
Thanks all!

Lol! For once, Matt, I can't think of a suitable reply!!!!! Mind you, at my age, you might have to carry me to my commentary point soon.....

It's a do I've always fancied doing. Perhaps we now have the ideal excuse what with owning a Cornish engine.....

Hi John, as you say an excellent rally in all ways, we have been going for a number of years but this years was the best - more than happy to do the 220 miles each way.
By the way we were at Langport for the 3 days near the lowloader park but couldnt get up to the arena due to the mud.

Does not the large hole in the canopy rather give the game away??

Lancashire Lad 24th July 2012 10:28 PM

Although some cracking shots these two stand out.

Good to see Gladiator tucked well into the fair as showmans engines ought to be! Not standing out front on show and as for Charlie D with the timber trailer, with a few tweaks could almost of been taken years ago!

UJ2225 24th July 2012 10:39 PM

Gladiator doing the job she was built for and doing it well.... no doubt the old girl steamed to and from Bocconoc too. Its always a pleasure to see this fine engine.

Charlies old SCC looks a real treat too... as always.

Jim

Listen Ian, no need to get personal just because you wear tights to work when driving a class 47!
Regards,
Tom.

PS: Would you like me to send you a couple of pairs for Christmas? and what colour do you prefer?

Should you fancy doing a summer of South West rallies, there's a shed quite familiar to said Cornish engine that you're always welcome to use as a base for a few weeks.
Definitely Boconnoc and now WESES at Stithians are going from strength to strength. Both set on very different but very good sites with roads - we're extremely fortunate in Cornwall to have them.

Tom, it was big blue bin liners on 47s ! nowadays its water proofs on leaky HSTs ! Youve spent too long staring at the Royal Albert Bridge, now everything looks big to you.....

Dont miss West of England as well!

Yes Jim "Glad" was steamed to and fro from Boconnoc, but didnt have far to go on the way home as she is staying at a friends until this weekend when she will be loaded to Torbay!

Emma :)

ttp2011 26th July 2012 08:24 PM

Ian, I will be at West Of England AND Torbay, both rallies are excellent, and so is Boconnoc - it is just that the latter is at the end of the school term and sometimes like this year falls on the same day as my grandaughters birthday and both my grandchildren live permanently with us. For a smaller rally (around 25 - 30 engines), Torbay is an amazing rally purely due to the variety of engines it produces. Also, it is only 40 minutes drive from home. I will not be going to South Cerney this year as I did not win one of the tickets from Seddon and Black!

Incidentally Ian, at any rally if you see a large red R reg BMW 5 series heading towards you at speed, it will just be me delivering your black fishnet tights.

Regards,

Tom.

PS: Does your wife know about you wearing fishnet tights?

Steam Scenes 28th July 2012 08:25 PM

Now I'm back from the West, couple of pics that I took - Boconnoc is one of the highlights of the year for me.

Good to hear Bo-Peep is staying in Cornwall, and Mr Vincent tells me the engine will continue her WESES rally streak:

Clinker in front of Boconnoc house:

tasker_tractor came down with Tasker 1902 via Langport the previous weekend:

http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/tth/12...c/DSC_9791.jpg

We didn't go to the rally on Sunday but we saw Gladiator and King Harry in full flight on the road returning home, amazing sights.

The other good thing is the programme - interesting engine information and wonderful pics from Andrew Williams collection. I hope Andrew or the Boconnoc organisers don't mind me putting a few on here, they are such a treat and I don't remember seeing any of them before:

God, I am so p***ed off withe not being able to get down this year. Looks like all had a great time. The pic of Clinker is so impresive, its got to be one of my favourite engines. Just look at it, shear bliss.

00000 30th July 2012 01:09 PM

I too thought it was a nice touch to put those working day photos in the program.
