Fig Pie Rolling Wybunbury

We met in the yard in the wet, took photo's in the wet and came home in the wet. Despite that the crowds turned out, including the local MP who rolled the first pie decorated with the Union flag. We found a group picknicking in the graveyard in the pouring rain and taking the discomfort away with Champagne. Fig Pie Day is a bit of British eccentricity which we love. There were a couple of engines with new owners, one of them was blowing off a lot but then I suppose the new owner has to learn how to manage an engine as we all did. There was a handful of engines but then it is not a rally but there were other things worth recording.

Many thanks to Mark and his team for a great day out

Thanks David.

Wouldn't let the new owner loose with anything!!

Was a great day out, and to be fair wasn't half as wet as I expected!

:-)

Beats Cholmondeley Pageant of Power for me, nice friendly relaxed day, and doesn't cost anyone to get in either. :-)

It didn't cost you anything in petrol either and you somehow got your cheese roll at half price. A good day out for 50p. I'm not suggesting anything . . . . .

Rod Boesing 17th June 2012 03:27 PM

Although it was wet it was not cold (unless your a brown dog), it was nice to talk other T.T members and engine owners who happened to be passing as well as others including the younger generation of whistle blowers and fire lookers.

Let me see now : one roller and two pairs of front rolls makes one pair spare , does it not ?

i can confirm the spares are in my yard (for storage) owned by aunty w, not pulled off any roller recently well the last 50 years, but infact a somerset scrap yard, ex cricket pitch near Wiveliscombe. i would have thought bob ought to be commended for saving them rather than weighing them in?

Well.

Had a smashing weekend.

Thanks to all for good company.

Special thanks must go to Sams Boy and Mrs S-B for their super hospitality.

A great weekend.

A great weekend.

I am only sorry I missed it. My dipping out and prediction of the Scammell needing a bit of tlc was exactly right. A new battery for starters, ( so to speak :) ) and the voltage regulator doing a bit of sulking. But it managed to shunt the engine this morning

Pleased to see you had a good time. Did I miss anything? Did you mange to blag your way onto any footplates as per normal?.

Broken Firebar 17th June 2012 08:46 PM

Oh yes - blagged my way onto a very nice Aveling - not sure who it belongs to though, I just found it lying around and so I borrowed it.... ;)

It had a very nice Child Seat though!! :)

There where those present who thought it was a bit wasted on the said engine and viewed it for mod and fitting to another engine !. ;)

:)

There is a number of shifty looking characters there -

Mr Guiseppe Black
Mrs Davidje (although I am sure she is beyond reproach)
and some dodgy looking bloke loitering around a Garrett too.......

Which could it be.......??? ;)

MP's are always dodgy although they normally start at 5 figures . . . . . . .

Steaming North 17th June 2012 10:54 PM

A massive thanks to Mr & Mrs Sams Boy. Another fantastic weekend, well looked after, great company, great beer, basil was verbally abused, I laughed my wottsit off...couldn't ask for any more. Thanks to all, but especially Heather (and Mark, close second).

sparkright 18th June 2012 06:58 AM

A&P aggy

What a great looking engine, hope the new owner enjoys it, from posts on here I gather it has been on the 'wish list' for some time! :)

well i'm glad you see fit to defame me.
you've never met me.
i can clearly see from your post you are challenged.
i also not there are no mountains in lincs. i was born there.

Broken Firebar 18th June 2012 08:22 AM

Mr Compound,

Whilst I am no prude (far from it!) can I suggest that it might be worth considering that kids also read this forum and that some of your posts may not really be appropriate.

Feel free to think what you want of course, and doubtless I will also be a **** but there we are.

Now, back to talking twaddle about steam engines and fig pies please!

fireman dan 18th June 2012 08:55 AM

Who owns Avellana now? I thought it belong to a nice chap called nick from down ere

Sams Boy 18th June 2012 10:02 AM

Now owned by a dodgy chap up here - he's been walking round with a grin from ear to ear all weekend - wouldn't go home, he had to keep having a play all weekend - he even mangaed to polish it for all of 5 mins before he found an excuse to do something else and get his slaves on the polish.

Probably the same very dodgy guy that ate all the figgy pies ;)

Didn't take him long to set up a new Avatar, or is that an Avellano

Broken Firebar 18th June 2012 10:20 AM

Ah - the figgy pies were inedible I understand from a good source.

I did polish the copper top, and did a large amount of polishing prior to the weekend and on Saturday. ;) Anyway - I was acting as a consultant to Basil Enterprises on lashing his roller down in the wee wagon at the time!!

And in answer to the question - yes - we have been very lucky in aquiring Aveling 8401 and my grin is still there. Very happy bunnies up here.

So you should be.
What about the roller now though - consigned to the back of the shed, never to be seen again:)

Broken Firebar 18th June 2012 11:29 AM

Oh No - we shall still be progressing - we have a few rally weekends coming up, but will still make time. Crown stays next.

Roger 18th June 2012 11:38 AM

Congratulations on aquiring "Hazelnut" ;)
