Garrett Displacement Lubricator
Wanted - 2 Garrett design displacement lubricators
(had an ad with picture on the old site, any chances of finding the picture David I believe its hosted on the ttu site) Wanted - Drain Tap Valves for a Garrett |

Still looking

Still looking, or does anyone have a drawing for these? I am led to believe it cannot be found/is missing at Ipswich
|
Sam's Boy's Burrell has one, but that was late on - close to Garrett takeover.
Would it be worth checking any Burrell archives? |

I am also after such a displacement lubricator so if any one comes across a brace of them please let me know. Sorry for gate crashing your wanted advert Mr Steam Jnr |
Ok, I believe this to be a shiphams fitting. I have seen in 2 sizes. Burrels list at least two sizes on spec sheets.
The outline drawing does exist at garretts. But it does not show the internals. Reading have no drawings of this type for burrels. I too need one if these... I plan to make one at some point. |

These are obviously much in demand. I hope Sam Boy's lubricator is screwed down very tightly. I belive Mr Steam Jnr was also looking at having some made. |
The late built Burrell roller "Hero" also has one. Having had one apart, I know what they look like inside, and can provide a sketch if you need some clues, but as for exact dimensions you will have to measure one. The 1/2" in the spec above will probably refer to the BSP thread size (male parallel) which is where it connects to the steam chest. The top of the body, (which is a casting but machined on the outside), has a "three leaf" interrupted flange facing outward, corresponding interrupted flange on the cap facing towards the centre, so that a part turn engages the flanges and prevents the top coming off. The top of the body is closed off except for the centre filling hole (about 1" diameter) and this hole sits at the centre of a slight depression machined into the top surface of the body. An inverted mushroom shaped piece of gunmetal is connected to that threaded spindle you can see coming through the cap, so that as it is tightened, it pushes down onto the edge of the filling hole in the upper face, sealing it against steam pressure and loading the flanges. The rest of the lubricator is standard practice, a pipe inside coming up close to the top, and regulated at the base by the feed adjustment screw - just a needle valve with a typical stuffing box, and the drain is very similar on the other side - from memory the condensate just trickles out of a weep hole in the drain stuffing box body. The two wheels engage on small squares on their respective shafts and from memory the nuts on the end of the shafts are 3/8 whit, the squares being 3/8 A/F. I think the thread in the top cap is 1/2" whit.

Not much help I know but there was one (or very similar) at the Thursford sale which I bought for my Garrett
|
I just spent an hour today going through one of the SD books at Ipswich! I have to go back in the next couple of weeks to pick up some drawings so i will check out that SD number if you want? Mark tell your dad the copper top is the right one I am well happy thanks.

I have a copy of the drawing, sadly does not show the internals...
|
Hi Mark
I have one at work(Coventry), you are welcome to come up and take it apart if you wish so that you can measure and draw it. Also, we are about to make patterns for Garrett drain cocks, if you let me know what SD cocks you need i will check if they are the same. Brent |

Added to our range of displacement lubricators, NEW Garrett and Fowler Type Displacement Lubricators. We always will aim to have one of each on the shelf in Fareham, but if not, castings are available and each can be ordered for delivery within 6 ~ 8 weeks. These add to the Marshall Displacement Lubricator already in our catalogue.
