But more importantly, it's only 221 'til South Cerney thumbsup

Arfursteam 26th December 2011 10:36 AM

South Cerney was excellent, we travelled over for the day from East Anglia, Dorset is good as well but getting older so find it difficult getting about. Looking forward to 2012 rallies, roll on May.

Matt S 26th December 2011 11:57 AM

221 days! Guess I had best pull me finger out then.

Lord B of Crafton 26th December 2011 04:55 PM

Whats the theme for 2012?

Matt S 26th December 2011 06:27 PM

South Cerney has no firm plans for a theme other than 100+ engines, however a few ideas have been floated here and there.

Always looking for ideas that punters want to see, so suggestions always welcomed...PM me if you have any ideas, not fair on Dorset to detract to much here (under their heading), although it is an honour to be considered worthy of mention in same thread.

Personally I can't wait for Dorset this year. 2011 was very much a bus mans holiday for me, and I really enjoyed the day I spent with my father just wandering around - it was good for the soul.

Dave

I did hear that “Diesel Heavy Haulage” are planning to have Scammell as their 2012 theme.

What do you think the chances of getting the 100ton scammell out for the event are? ;)

Matt,

I could say which one, but I don’t thick there’s much chance of either one coming out.

Am I the only person who doesn't get excited about Dorset?

00000 3rd January 2012 07:28 PM

I and everyone I know used to years ago but not so much now. having said that its 'not to be missed' because everyone is there, its like a 'gathering of the clans' where you meet people once a year.
Some of the small infomal do's are probably better fun though.

benz1890 5th January 2012 03:30 PM

Trying to get in with Royal Chester. I've written a letter last year and just got off the phone from Martin now but he isn't going to give me an answer for a couple of months :( Oh well we'll see what happens!!

The commercial section is running a theme of Diesel Showmans transport. Im busy trying to organise it at present. Trying to get as many works built showmans vehciles there as possible together with some more interesting ex-war stuff.

Hopefully, after going for 7 years, 2012 should be my 1st time exhibiting in Dorset. Ive done plenty of other shows around Wales, Gloucester, and that sort of area, but Dorset is still the best show by far.

SO you have not been to the one near Bedford in September ?.

What determines who they choose to invite? Some engines seem to be there year in year out. But if you have an engine which has survived in reasonable numbers, what makes them invite yours over some one else's? Is it an old boys club?

iain 11th January 2012 01:26 PM

I'd be interested in this, we only get to the local rallies by road, but with Dorest being over 5 days, it makes a lorry trip more worthwhile. I find by the time we get there on the friday, usally a full day on the road, then fix what we need to saturday ;-) its sunday and time to come home!

It would be nice to get the engine down there and have a relatively quite few days and then back again.

EdwardianRob 15th May 2012 01:47 PM

It'll be my first visit this year.... very much looking forward to it
