Today was my first visit to this rally and what a rally , I realise that this is the events 50th rally but I think this is the best show I have visited since I started attending these events back in 2004 thumbsup
A day really is too short to see everything of interest , mainly because I spent a lot of the day around the steam arena where a number of engines could be seen hauling various trailers etc.
I intend to return next year .
Well done to all involved in the organising and running of this event

Dave

It's a Floether (German) 5 N.H.P. Agricultural Traction Engine from 1916

It clearly shows T.H. FLOTHER on the engine, although that is probably a misprint, and should be T.H. FLOETHER.:D

Brian, I believe you are correct, I also missed out the 'Th.' when I replied above :o

It seems that an o with umlaut "ö" can also be written as "oe" so it would appear that both are correct, and the "Th." is short for Theodor or Theodore.

YYS4BOB 29th August 2011 07:45 PM

When was the identity of this engine amended? When it appeared at GDSF in 2004
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Dorset2004.jpg
It had a completely different one.

Well, I'm not used to seeing UK engines up close and personal, but I knew that Floether (however you spell it!) had to be SOMETHING different than your normal-normal! ;) Kinda neat looking machine. Looking at the pics of the rally, looks like a real nice one to visit. :)

There was a portable floating about as well wasn't there?

I know of one in the Balkans (have pictures) sat in a village square (I think its same make) - although I thought they were Czech built (although I may have East Germany connection at back of my brain cell).

A group of American army guys actually built a shelter for it to win 'hearts and minds' of the locals on their peace keeping mission. I spoke to one of them several years ago and he gave me exact location (and photos), but I promised never to tell where it was - so don't ask me, although I suspect it was featured elsewhere.

Tez,
Nah, the shipping bill would eat me alive! ;) Wouldn't mind a short visit, though...

Could be a great vacation for you... if you can find 3 months and come at the right time in the height of the rally season. :D

Looks like all the great photos posted on TT are very tempting !.:p

I did see some evidence on the ground that unlike last year the toilets were just too far away from the shrowler!

That said it was an impressive line up of showland hardware. Im no expert but i think the genuine items outnumbered the imposters by a large factor.

cocky_1987 4th September 2011 06:27 PM

The first full day at home since and the first chance I've had to post! Made my first visit for a while and only my second to the show and it didn't disappoint (once I eventually got there). Both times now I've found the site a nightmare to get to from the M5 side. The last section of dual carriageway along the A5 took the best part of an hour because if you stay in the left lane ready for the roundabout everyone overtakes and cuts in at the last minute, leaving those in the correct lane stuck slowly moving. This is more than a little frustrating when you've already been on the road for nearly 4 hours and can only spend one day at the show.

That grumble aside, it was well worth the journey and one of the best shows I've been to this year. Great selection of engines I've not seen before, brilliant working field and great to see a playpen for the engines to stretch their legs. Its also the only show I've ever been to where the crowds are several deep all around the ring for the grand parade, brilliant sight to see!

Here are a few of my pictures and all the rest can be found here (starting about a third of the way down): http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...c062319&type=1
