Beaulieu Steam Revival
Had a fantastic day out there today, couldnt stay all day but had enough time to see all the engines! Not many Steam rally's could attract engines from France, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and all over England. They had nearly an example of most manafactureres of Traction engines including some from America and abroad!
If your thinking about going tomorrow, do it, you wont regret it! A few of my photos, http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4122 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4128 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4129 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4130 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4116 http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4115 And one of the lads bringing in the load! http://www.tractiontalkforum.com/pic...pictureid=4114 |
Engines on the load are Fowler "Volunteer" and Robey "Our Nipper", both are a credit to their owners.
Ant pictures of Pride of Worcester powering the fairground ride anyone? Charlie. |
Had a brilliant day there yesterday. Lots of people to talk to and lots of stuff to look at! I thought it was even better then last years.

I think I‘ve just been to steam heaven!
I think I‘ve just been to steam heaven!
What an amazing event. We had a brilliant day (Saturday), just in the steam areas – no time left for the Motor Museum or other attractions. Great location, excellent facilities – but what made it was the range & variety of exhibits. Not the number of them, (although 60+ in show guide), but the selection. A derelict portable, a highly polished SRL and a taste of everything in between. We were just blown away by the woodland area – was it 6 or 7 working saw benches? Every one different. Worked by crews in period (period-ish :)) dress and loaded by RL crane engine (Fowler, The Great North). One interesting thing – having visited many rallies over the years – here we saw lots of engines driving round the site, full-size, miniatures, steam cars, light engine and with various trailers – gave a real working feel, to the site. So where were all the JWs in Hi-Vis vests? Didn’t see one all day, except a few first-aiders. Did the world come to an end? No – just a crowd of steam enthusiasts all being sensible. It looked like the event ran itself, so relaxed. Clearly it did not – a lot of people must have worked very hard to achieve this. The icing on the cake for us was the field foundry – casting the rally plaques I think (not 100% on that). For a £10 donation to charity you got to make up a sand mould and they cast it, while you watched, in iron. That was a souvenir my lad just had to have. Beaulieu Steam Revival 2011: Totally Brilliant. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in bringing it together. Rob S |
Another Cracking show, our 2nd year there, a credit to Robert and Jenny Already looking foward to next years show.
And a big well done to Andy Sellwood for winning best exhibit for his Ransomes Portable it was well deserved. |

It's also worth noting that it was a completely new set of engines this year, no engine that was there last year was there this year and Robert Coles said the plan is to do the same again next year.
It's one of the finest events in the country, all steam powered, free, fairground, several engines which had never been to events in England before, playpen with JR on the mic, 50% of the engines working, no sunday market tat stalls, none of the usual rally field clutter + all of the other things to do in the Beaulieu. I don't understand why it isn't packed with more enthusiasts. Shame I chose the wrong day to go and Saturday's sunshine wasn't repeated but given what was there it didn't seem to matter that much. |
Best event I have been to with the engine for years. Great atmosphere, fantastic selection of engines, and so many owners there that I might only get to meet at Dorset.
Huge thanks to Jenny, Robert and David for the organisation and the support that us engines owners recieved. Even if I cannot take my engine next year, pity, I will be there. Douglas |
Gutted I couldn't make it, it looks even better than last year - the "Goodwood" of the steam world?
We would love to go with an engine, fingers crossed for next year perhaps! |

Enjoy the pics Jim We had a delightful weekend there, many thanks to Robert, Jenny and Philip for inviting us. Good to meet up with you Jim, thanks for introducing yourself. The Stenner No 4 bench was impressive, cut to within a 1/16" over 23 foot! Missed that one on e bay. Not been to Beaulieu since I was 5 years old!! JW |

I missed it again this year but will try get there next year! Seems abit odd to use different engines every year (with the exception of Robert's own engines). Surely keeping a few of them returning every year (especially local engines) would keep the engine numbers up? It is quite a long way to go for many engine owners and I still think that tying it into the Old Mill Steam Road Run would be a very good idea.

On a personal view i think its good that averything is new each year,i get to see some new engines from up north that i may never see as most of the shows i go to are only around hants/wilts/dorset area. |

Last year's event was excellent, this year perhaps, even better. I certainly had an enjoyable time at both - crewing a showman's last year, and commentating this year. Looking forward to the next one - same weekend next year, by the way. |
Will definitely be there next year, having missed the first two. I think changing the line up each year is a great idea, but may have it's limitations in the long run. The trouble with Dorset is the same engines on the same spot year after year after year after......................
|
Well, had I gone I assume I would have a different opinion by the sounds of it! Abit gutted I missed it but will make sure I don't next year!
I'm all up for a variety of engines and how the whole show has been planned but I would have thought that keeping the local ones there it'd be easier for Robert than having to replace every single engine year on year. Unless of course he gets some of Dreelan's engines out... now that would be a superb year! |
