Can anyone enlighten me as to why steam rollers never appear at Llandudno?

I believe a roller cracked a manhole cover one year so they don't allow them. Lee

Its not particularly a roller thing Ant, more that some busybody involved with the council took a dislike to steel wheels and this has perpetuated. I believe that steel wheeled vehicles were allowed on the show field, but not the town centre.

And as for a roller cracking a manhole cover, I wonder how the tarmac either side was placed..........

buzzy bee 3rd May 2011 04:59 PM

Hi

I do believe there was an engine on strakes there this last weekend.

I also thought several rollers are now rubbered, so wondered if one would appear before long.

Cheers

They do not like the steel marking the road so that is why. You have got to wear rubber or they do not want you

Certiainly looks like a great weekend at llandudno and wish I was there :( Great photos too...however on the subject of NO Rollers there for the reason(s) mentioned I am very surprised to see the Miniature's roaming round the Pier or whatever it is !, As I notice it is a WOODEN FLOOR surely that is a fire risk in it's self with hot cinders falling from the ash pan !.

Cheers

Steel shod engines have been there in the past, a few years ago the MANN tractor 1386 Brinkburn Lass was there and on another 2 years Fowler 14888 Kingfisher was there.

Hmm,

Perhaps they are snobs then?.

Good reason not to bother perhaps

Wonder if the ban will be extended to rollers with four wheel's ?!!.

:)

buzzy bee 20th May 2011 11:30 PM

At the end of the day if you decide not to go, it is your loss, it is a very good weekend, and I am sure alot of people are thankful to those who organise it. Long may it continue!

Managed to feature on one or two photo's hehe

Perhaps a email to the organisers would sort out the mystery, to save speculation?

basil JNR 21st May 2011 07:15 AM

What happened to the rubbers on julie??

w6cloggs 21st May 2011 07:32 AM

We used to go with the portable and racksaw (on the feild ) but when I bought the Clayton Roller Len Rickets told me NO as they would not have steel wheels in the town !
On the very year he turned me away Allan Eaton was it the town with Kingfisher on stakes ! I thought it was a case as if your face fits so I have never been back

Rod Boesing 21st May 2011 08:35 AM

Is it an N.T.E.T event ?.

:)

There is no snobbery involved at all and the organisers have to deal with the whims etc of the Mostyn's who own a lot of Llandudno and the local council who have some strange ideas at times that the organisers have to abide by or the show will not happen. The engine choice is based on a selection of different types rather than too many of the same.
Some engine owners will never get an invite no matter what they own, as they or their crew/family will have done something at llandudno to piss the organisers off at some time in the past, it could be as simple as not turning up and not bothering to call and say that they cant be there(that was found out by a phone call from me on the Saturday morning to ask what time they were arriving as time was getting close to the start time), or they could have been abusive to the organisers or officials.

Sounds like Neil got it right then 'if your face fits'.
